Restaurant description

A charming family-run Italian restaurant in Cambridge, La Margherita showcases Mediterranean recipes passed down through the generations in a smart setting, with large windows flooding the interior with natural light.

The menu at La Margherita contains authentic Italian recipes that have been passed down through the owners' family. Everything is prepared fresh on the premises – the pizza dough is prepared each morning, and topped with imported delicacies like fennel salami, buffalo mozzarella and anchovies. There are varied antipasti sharing options, pasta recipes like linguine with prawns, oyster mushrooms, chilli and garlic, and rich mains like veal escalope fried with cured ham.

Desserts at La Marherita Cambridge include the owner's famed tiramisu, as well as a popular gelato range with an impressive 24 flavours. The wine list boasts bottles from all across Italy, including Tuscany and Sicily.

A wonderfully authentic example of traditional Italian family dining, La Margherita sits an 11-minute drive from Cambridge Rail Station.

Always a friendly greeting and the staff know my favourite wine which appears as I sit down! The atmosphere is warm and family friendly - service excellent and flexible. Food always of a high standard and well presented. Both ground floor and first floor rooms are pleasant and relaxing - but always clean and very smart. The Pizzas and Pastas are all great - and the starters. I bring a lot of friends and all enjoy the experience.

A mid-week evening spent happily with lovely food, with some different kinds of Italian dishes on offer. We really enjoyed it - the food was very flavoursome, we had a good house red and were pleased with the very professional, friendly, unrushed service. We also thought it also very good value and we shall be revisiting. Atmosphere: we liked it's informality and sense of calm: there was no background music on this night so you could easily hear your company's conversation and the pleasing gentle hub-bub of other diners too. It almost felt like a dining club atmosphere, and that made it comfortable to linger over our food. This was mid-week however, so it might change when fuller at weekends or with large parties - the upstairs in particular offers room for larger gatherings. The only slight improvement for us at La Margherita could be - and it's really a personal preference - in the décor downstairs. To give it a warmer glow from outside looking in and to feel cosy once inside, we feel the restaurant area lighting could do with just a few more warmer light bulbs and perhaps a little more softness in the décor to give it a little bit of warmth. To balance that comment observation, this restaurant's charm is in it's simplicity: it's uncluttered and very clean and the bonhomie of the owners and fellow diners give a warmth to it anyway. An all round very good experience. Thank you.
