Sadly let down by the service. We had to ask every time for more tea, the waiters didn’t come near us. This did spoil the experience.

The design and decor was beautiful and tasteful. Unfortunately the afternoon tea was pretty standard and nothing special and I had to get up from my table to ask for the tea as nobody came to check on us. The room was too hot and we had to get up to go and pay as it took a while for anyone to collect payment. I had high expectations of this supppsedly luxury hotel and was disappointed. It is a shame as it has potential to be top notch but it fell short.

As this is a reasonably new hotel, I was quite keen to try the Afternoon Tea. The décor is lovely & cosy however we did have to loiter in the Tavern for quite a few minutes before being seated. The highlights were definitely the mini cakes & fresh scones, nothing was overly sweet & all tasted very fresh with great presentation. Unfortunately the tea & sandwiches were a big disappointment. The tea was from a selection of teabags & although there were about 8 flavours to choose from, I would expect loose leaf tea to be served with Afternoon Tea. Also the waiter poured my tea immediately at the table without letting it brew so I basically started with a cup of mildly coloured hot water! Before serving the sandwiches, we were asked about any dietary requirements (as I'm allergic to beef) so we told them & we ended up with cheese / cucumber / salmon / avocado sandwiches, along with one which appeared to be pastrami. Again for Afternoon Tea where the finger sandwiches are your main course, I'd not expect 3 of my 4 sandwiches to be plain vegetables (as I had double avocado in place of the pastrami). The fillings were just very disappointing when the rest of it was so nice & the bread was lovely & soft. The waiters were attentive without being over bearing but it was disappointing they weren't too clear which sandwiches were which. However they were happy to box up our leftover cakes for us to take away.

We surprised my friend with an Afternoon Tea as she is having a baby soon. We were greeted well and even though early, we could have the table. Staff were attentive and helpful. The sandwiches and cakes were delicious and the setting is gorgeous. Eclectic decor with tones of Manchester displayed which we loved.

Lovely afternoon tea, sandwich fillings were different fillings than the norm and very tasty. Unfortunately the whole experience was let down by the service. We were half way through our eats and no one had asked us if we would like tea or coffee - I had to ask! No one then came to ask if we would like a fill up. We were treating a friend for her 50th birthday and I had arranged prior to our visit that a plate with 'happy birthday ' and a candle be delivered to our table - again I had to ask and it was delivered while I was in the ladies! Surely as there was only 3 of us the staff could have made sure we were all seated?! For what we were paying service was poor.
