Served in an impressive Italian renaissance building dating back to 1872, afternoon tea at King Street Tavern offers a quintessentially British treat in historic surrounds. Winner of Best City Restaurant 2016 at Cheshire Life Food and Drink Awards, King Street Tavern offers a selection of sweet and savoury delights amidst designer fabrics, ambient lighting and an array of locally commissioned art.

The King Street afternoon tea menu begins with a selection of traditional finger sandwiches, including smoked salmon with dill and crème fraîche, Lancashire cheese with onion chutney, and beef with horseradish. Accompanied by your choice of tea, complete your experience with a range of sweet treats. Try the likes of cardamom panna cotta with raspberry jelly, lemon macaron, or chocolate delice with pistachio, as well as classic scones with jam and clotted cream.

The afternoon tea lounge at King Street Tavern blends contemporary chic with the historic feel of the hotel. Dine amidst quirky artwork, cosy seating, and atmospheric lighting.

A lovely dining room with bags of atmosphere and quirky decor that gets conversation going! Attentive but not overly formal customer service. Good menu selection and great tasting food. I'll be back - possibly to sample the rooms and infinity pool.

Afternoon tea was lovely seated in a lounge at the rear of the tavern. The waiter presented the tier of food and cakes very well and the food was delicious.

Came for afternoon tea. We were welcomed nicely and the afternoon tea was nice. However it was not busy but we had to keep getting up to get someone's attention to ask for things such as tea top up and the bill. Once the afternoon tea was delivered to the table the waitress was not sure of what all the sandwiches and cakes were and then never came back to check how things were. So overall good afternoon tea but not the service I would expect. Having said that they sent over an extra cake fish for my Mum's birthday which was a nice touch and the setting is lovely.
