The John’s House menu evolves with the seasons, beginning with dishes like Wye Valley asparagus with quail egg, truffle and crispy chicken skin, and raw Orkney scallops with crab, cucumber and elderflower. Innovative mains include fillet of Cornish sea bass with chorizo and avocado, and Gloucester Old Spot piglet with pineapple, peanut butter, sage and blood pudding.

To finish, sample the classic cheese board, or tuck into creative desserts like sea buckthorn curd with white chocolate sorbet, liquorice and sweet cicely. The wine list at John’s House restaurant offers an extensive selection of bottles from around the world.

This is our 3rd time at Johns and each occasion has been brilliant. This time I was entertaining business clients, who thought it was a great experience. What makes it special, other than the food is the staff. They are so attentive, friendly and knowledgable. An absolute pleasure for the whole evening. 2 of my guests were gluten tolerant and this was accommodated without any hassle.

food is beautifully presented. All the dishes had interesting combinations of flavours. The meat was very locally sourced , from the farm on the site. Service is correct but not stuffy. The small dining rooms makevgorvaxrelaxed atmosphere. A very enjoyable experience

Reception, attention, presentation excellent. Speed of service perfect tho' it was busy. This is an old house 16 th century so it is a tad tricky to negotiate, stairs, steps, low ceilings but these were pointed out as we were shown to our table. Delicious sherry and olives, minimal lunch choice - 2 starters, 3 mains and 2 desserts or cheese as an extra. A chunk of smoked salmon with several dabs of accompanying flavour were mopped up by rosemary buns or granary. Very good. Unsure terms were explained :- gremolata, hen of the woods and the local belly pork arrived with loin and was full of flavour, crisp and tender. A glass of verdicchio was light and matching. Fine coffee and petite fours.
