This was my third visit, and I never cease to be amazed at the sheer originality and brilliance of John's food. It is heavenly dining on a whole other level! First, a cocktail of Apple Gin with Mint and Mediterranean Tonic served with at intervals with three of the most incredible amuse bouche while we looked at the menu. My favourite was the light-as-air lacy crisp bed topped with flavoured mouse textures, flowers and herbs. A starter of mackerel topped with more exquisite nasturtiums, marigolds, and the freshest herbs was napped with a light, creamy lovage sauce - a real picture to look at but tasted even better. Mains of Cod served with cucumber, passionfruit and crab and Guinea Fowl with accompaniments were equally stunning. Deserts were similarly show-stopping! My cherries poached in red wine, topped interestingly moist pistachio crumb cake, yoghurt ice cream and finally a softly caramelised meringue was the stuff of dreams. Pedro the wine waiter is wonderful! Knowledgable, engaging and so disarming - a million miles from the stuffy stereotype so often associated with the title, sommelier. A special mention too for the smiley, charming and super-friendly waiting staff, who all know the food and engage so beautifully. John's House is perhaps the best place I have ever eaten.

This restaurant never fails to deliver. From the snacks to the taster menu, the bread and the wine flight. Just amazing. All the staff are polite and engaging throughout, really create the experience without feeling too formal. The sweat peas, fig leaf, chocolate and water mint!!! My word. We will be back many more times. Thank you as always.

I went to John’s House with my wife and 18 year old grandson for lunch we had the taster menu Over my eighty years I have been to a number of excellent restaurants all over the world but the meal at John’s house is without doubt the best I have ever had. Everything was perfect from the wonderful flavours in each of the seven courses to the friendly and helpful staff .my grandson couldn’t believe that such wonderful food existed . I can’t wait for my next visit

Dear John and Team Max and I very much enjoyed our visit on Thursday. The Tasting Menu was delicious and inspirational. It is good to know that you use so much of your own and local produce and are now planning a bakery and guest accommodation. In these strange and uncertain times it is so good to see ambition and enthusiasm. Best wishes for the future and give our regards to your family. Susan Fischer

Excellent food, especially the Hogget. The new upstairs room is a MAJOR plus adding to the sense of occasion while facilitating social distancing. Staff were very pleasant and professional, especially (?) Pedro who was easy to engage with over food and wine.

Having had the opportunity to try other Fine dining/Michelin Starred restaurants, we decided to try Johns House as it is local to us. We went for lunch to celebrate 2 birthdays and a graduation and can honestly say its the best restaurant we have dined at. There was a relaxed ambiance and all the staff were very helpful and professional, they explained the menu and answered any questions we had. When we were served our food again the staff were professional, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was AMAZING! Would highly recommend a visit and we will definitely visit again.

Fabulous food in a cosy character setting. It would be difficult to choose a favourite (we had the taster menu) but I particularly enjoyed Tom's Potatoes, the lightly salted cod and from the deserts, the English cherries with pistachio. The home made bread is sublime. The staff are obviously highly trained and extremely knowledgeable of the food... which is very apparent. Perfect amount of time allowed between courses. In these difficult times of the pandemic the ambience of the whole evening felt very normal and relaxed. They have clearly done their best in the most difficult of circumstances. Highly recommend for any occasion!
