Very engaging contrast between the Michelin star quality food and the cottage-style surroundings. Friendly, unpretentious, relaxing, and the food is magnificent.

As usual a faultless meal from the amuse bouches to the petit fours. The sommelier’s recommendation was also spot on. John’s House more than earns its Michelin Star.

The first dessert of turnip sorbet, yogurt mint and licorice was sublime.

This was our third visit and as before the dining experience was second to none . Food was excellent as usual. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable .

We’ve been to John’s House Restaurant a few times now and have found the food first class, along with the service and overall welcoming experience. However, I’ve not given full 5 stars due to our table position. It was in the centre of the dining room, next to the stairs where waiters were using for access to & from the kitchen. In addition we were also close to the waiters’ station, where there was clearly waiters regularly accessing the computer station. Being in the centre of the room also positioned us in the line of traffic for other guests from the other dining area in the next room to get to the toilet facilities in the area prior to where we were dining. Whilst we understand that there is limited space in these dining rooms and tables are at a premium, it did make it ‘uncomfortable’ having quite of footfall around us. Other diners in our area were slightly better positioned around the outskirts of the room and those in the the next dining area were clearly more comfortable, being isolated and no thoroughfare to contend with. Notwithstanding these issues and comments, the service however was very good!
I’m not sure what can be proposed other than the removal of this particular dining position and the room rearranged. Clearly, a financial issue to be considered?
If we visit again we would ask for an alternative dining table if available.

The cooking and the service could not be faulted. The restaurant itself was a disappointment in terms of decor, lighting and furniture however. Also the location is not easy to find being part of another farm complex and with very poor external signage. We drove up and down Loughborough Road several times ,finally asking directions from a local resident as to where to find you. This is easily remedied by means of a well placed and graphically clear sign on the street frontage.

The reception was business like if not warm and welcoming.Nobody answers the phone we noted which goes immediately to automatic response - not much use if you are lost and trying to find the place!

The ground floor lounge area is compact as one would expect in a farmhouse cottage but the furniture is not very comfortable and the decor is just a bit dull.

The restaurant is on the first floor which is difficult for elderly and disabled guests. There is no lift either.
The lavatories are basic but clean and with good soaps and hand towels.

Our lunch was old spot pork and root vegetables all delicious and very well cooked. We had the apple and meringue dessert which was equally delicious. Wines and coffee were good and the whole experience was very enjoyable. The table staff were attentive and pleasant without being over familiar - a regrettable trend in many restaurants unfortunately. We sent our compliments to John in the kitchen - he certainly merits his Michelin star. Our conclusion is that the quality of the cooking outweighs the other aspects and as in France it's the food and the wine that matters most.

We will certainly come back again.

    Kind regards,

    Tim and Gillian McArtney.

First time eating eve and it was fantastic chose the tasting menu to really get a feel of the style of food. The snacks were outstanding so much truffle it made it so decadent. The outstanding dishes for me were the crab dish and the parsnip sorbet such brilliant flavours and work of a truely talented chef.

Excellent meal with varied menu. Good value . Excellent wine recommendation.
Tables perhaps a trifle close with other diners on their mobiles! Staff a little over attentive.
