A hidden gem surrounded by the shops and theatres of Covent Garden, Joe Allen is a highly regarded restaurant serving a selection of American and European specialities.
Ideally located for a pre-theatre meal or for dinner after the show, nearby theatres include The Lyceum, Novello Theatre and Duchess Theatre, as well as the Fortune Theatre and Theatre Royal. Joe Allen is also a great destination for a special brunch, lunch or dinner when shopping or staying in one of the hotels around Covent Garden and on the Strand.
Opened in 1977 as a stylish London dining venue for theatre-goers, artists, journalists and performers alike, Joe Allen has a relaxed, casual feel throughout. Today the healthy cuisine and friendly atmosphere attract an eclectic clientele of the West End's young and trendy crowd, romantic couples and families.

All as expected from J/A always excellent. preferred old venue for atmosphere

Good food but getting a waiter to order a first drink or bottle of wine etc. was an issue. Looked like there were enough servers but perhaps not enough for busy pre-theatre slot (also the bus boy / waiter distinction didn't help). Multi-task everyone who comes to the table.

Had a great evening. Loved the atmosphere and piano playing. Felt like a speakeasy! Really good service and food. I had the sea bass which was very tasty but maybe could have had a bit more fish. Also would have liked orange gin. They had lots of gins but none flavoured. Would definitely go back.

It was nice to go as we used to come regularly. I did not know you had moved. The set menu is good value but wasn’t blown away with the beetroot salad flavours. It was quite bland. The pork terine was apparently good. I had salmon as main course. That was lovely but very small.
Perfect for pre dinner meal when not a lot of time.
Not sure if I would go back and if we did might not bother with menu but try the rest. Think it’s become too much of a business with trying to have the turn around but obviously pre theatre setup is a different approach as people get in and out.
Your chap at the door was super friendly. Staff too. The lady who took the meal down looked stressed but was actually also very nice.
The pianist reminds me of the olden days although curious if he’s the same hi
I would recommend restaurant for quick meal but not to expect anything fancy.

Good ambiance and prompt service. Were accomodated earlier than booked.
No warning about the 12.5% service charge or charge for still water when asked if we required water at table.
Food was excellent though.
