Restaurant description

A hidden gem surrounded by the shops and theatres of Covent Garden, Joe Allen is a highly regarded restaurant serving a selection of American and European specialities.

Ideally located for a pre-theatre meal or for dinner after the show, nearby theatres include The Lyceum, Novello Theatre and Duchess Theatre, as well as the Fortune Theatre and Theatre Royal. Joe Allen is also a great destination for a special brunch, lunch or dinner when shopping or staying in one of the hotels around Covent Garden and on the Strand.

Opened in 1977 as a stylish London dining venue for theatre-goers, artists, journalists and performers alike, Joe Allen has a relaxed, casual feel throughout. Today the healthy cuisine and friendly atmosphere attract an eclectic clientele of the West End's young and trendy crowd, romantic couples and families.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

Overall this is quite a nice place our waitress was very friendly and the food was good, slightly limited menu possibly. We had gin and tonic and for some reason our first ones were flat so they bought out two gins and poured in the tonic and it went flat again! I am only a tourist but would go back again.

A nice vibe to the restaurant and good service. Food a little hit and miss, ribs great, hotdog not so good. Lacking a burger menu but could clearly see some being served so not sure if we missed something. Don’t sit by the door, reception guy speaks very loudly so quite off putting and the inner areas are far nicer too!

Excellent meals and service ! Thank you for keeping your piped music very low. Look at Pipedown charity website if you haven’t already. 20 or so years ago I so enjoyed your classic American salads and was rather disappointed not to see so many on the menus. It would be good to offer at least one as a ‘special’ especially in the summer - nice to offer some refined Americana as an alternative to the usual Ottolenghi style dishes which are everywhere. I have a 1949 cook book, ‘A Taste of Texas’ - happy to send you photocopies of salad & dressings pages. I will enquire when next passing by.
