First visit since the move. It's great ! Everything that was special about Joe's is saved, but the new venue makes it better still. Food good, service good , cocktails good, atmosphere great and still good value.

A hidden gem surrounded by the shops and theatres of Covent Garden, Joe Allen is a highly regarded restaurant serving a selection of American and European specialities.

Ideally located for a pre-theatre meal or for dinner after the show, Joe Allen is quietly tucked away on Exeter Street just a five-minute walk away from Covent Garden underground station. Nearby theatres include The Lyceum, Novello Theatre and Duchess Theatre, as well as the Fortune Theatre and Theatre Royal. Joe Allen is also a great destination for a special brunch, lunch or dinner when shopping or staying in one of the hotels around Covent Garden and on the Strand.

Opened in 1977 as a stylish London dining venue for theatre-goers, artists, journalists and performers alike, Joe Allen has a relaxed, casual feel throughout. Today the healthy cuisine and friendly atmosphere attract an eclectic clientele of the West End's young and trendy crowd, romantic couples and families.

Train delays (Waterloo again) made me late and so we decided to eat from the set menu. The starter of Mozzerella and Corgettes was good and nicely dressed. My main of pan fried haddock was very disappointing and the mash was grey but tasty, I was expecting salad leaves but there were just a few blobs of what looked like pesto sauce. My friend's chilli beef was stringy and tough. The chocolate brownie pudding was rather dry but nicely presented. Inspite of booking well in advance we were given a table at the back of the room right next to the noisy coffee machine which made conversation difficult to hear but this may have been because we were late. The décor of the new venue was amazing, looking sparkling and new, but at the same time just like the old Jo Allen's we have come to know and love, well done for that. My friend and I have been meeting for our annual meeting at Jo Allen's for over 25yrs she from Suffolk and me from the Isle of Wight but I am not sure if that will continue in 2018 PS Please put a 'Ladies' sign on the door of the WC

Terrible service, we had an overpriced drink , that was not what we ordered, sat there for thirty minutes, the wrong cold appetizer showed up, the waitress couldn't speak English, the manager came by and left and we sat for 15 more minutes and dropped 20 pounds on the table and went across the street.

Set menu sent to my email was completely different to what was served on the night disappointment as menu on the night was very fishy my partner does not like fish. Ordered ribeye steak cut of meat could have been better for what you pay cooked beautifully never the less..

First time at the new location but just as good as ever. If anything the food was better. There used to be a "green Menu" at the old place and now it looks like it isn't done anymore, which is a shame as it was a good indicator that they took veggies seriously. Notwithstanding that, there was a reasonable choice of vegetarian food and as ever the staff were excellent.
    Will definitely be back.

I was keen to revisit Joe Allen after it's reopening following the move.

On the whole, the restaurant is similar in layout but the bar area looked tiny in comparison to the old place.

We sat in the first part of the restaurant near to the host's stand and as it was early, we were greeted and served promptly but the atmosphere wasn't great.

Our food was very nice but overall pricey. We had the flat iron chicken which came with fries and the pan friend calves liver. Then for dessert, the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and the banana, spiced rum and chocolate sundae. To drink, we had a nice red wine (I asked for the Malbec but bizarrely this wasn't possible) & my Mum had a white wine.

Overall, we were happy with our visit and I'd like to try Joe Allen's for brunch.

Really conveniently located now just off the Strand towards the back of the Strand Palace Hotel so close to lots of bus stops and a stone's throw from Charing Cross station (tube and trains) and Covent Garden tube.

Always good at Joe Allen . New location is great. We enjoy the food. Lee on the piano Saturday lunch time is great

The move to the new location seems to have only improved everything about Joe Allen's. As an "original" customer from NYC in 1965 and on, I have always enjoyed having the atmosphere, and good food, with relaxed atmosphere available elsewhere, but especially in London. The piano player was excellent during dinner also, but the menu has been consistently inventive and the preparation was great; my own (and one guest's) selections included meat and potatoes, but my other two vegetarian guests found ample choices and good things to eat as well. Bravo J.A.

Excellent food with plenty of choice. Service is faultless. So pleased that since the move the atmosphere is still the same . Been eating at Joe Allen for 25 years at least and it NEVER disappoints.
