Maxine is a wonderful host and went out of her way to seat us at the table of our choice. A little noisy when full and with the piano playing too. Excellent value and quick for pre theatre.

A hidden gem surrounded by the shops and theatres of Covent Garden, Joe Allen is a highly regarded restaurant serving a selection of American and European specialities.
Ideally located for a pre-theatre meal or for dinner after the show, Joe Allen is quietly tucked away on Exeter Street just a five-minute walk away from Covent Garden underground station. Nearby theatres include The Lyceum, Novello Theatre and Duchess Theatre, as well as the Fortune Theatre and Theatre Royal. Joe Allen is also a great destination for a special brunch, lunch or dinner when shopping or staying in one of the hotels around Covent Garden and on the Strand.
Opened in 1977 as a stylish London dining venue for theatre-goers, artists, journalists and performers alike, Joe Allen has a relaxed, casual feel throughout. Today the healthy cuisine and friendly atmosphere attract an eclectic clientele of the West End's young and trendy crowd, romantic couples and families.

Overall a good experience, but I was disappointed with my meal. The rack of ribs was dry and completely lacking in any flavour – remarkable really.

Food lovely, service superb. BUT. Given that I booked the table around five weeks ago, I was not very happy to find we had been seated in one of the noisiest spots - right by the service area where the staff were preparing coffee, stacking crockery etc. (I think it was table 44, not sure). The noise from the area was deafening - the banging and clattering of the coffee machine, cutlery etc combined with the piano player made it hard to hear anything. The staff were lovely and offered to move us but we were settled and didn't know just how intrusive the noise was going to get. They offered to move us again for dessert but by then it didn't seem worth the hoo-ha. I think people who book a long way ahead should get better tables! But food excellent and staff just could not have been nicer.

Love Joe Allen. Great, buzzy vibe. Perfect place to go with our teenagers

Excellent menu. Good ambiance. Great theatrical / show business memorabilia everywhere.
Disappointed that the Argentinian Malbec wine was not available despite being listed on the wine list.

The food was delicious . I had lemon sole on the bone and it just melted in my mouth, it was so very very good. After that I had ice cream and chocolate sauce which was yummy

I and my theatre pals have eaten at Joe Allen many times, both at their previous address and more recently at their new one. I don't think the chef made the move around the corner however, because, sad to say, the food has taken an unexpected dive in quality. I'm sure one visit won't put us off dining with Joe in the future, but we were quite disappointed - enough to mention it here!

This was my first visit following the recent relocation of the restaurant. I thought the setting and atmosphere of the original restaurant had been recreated very well, as had the good choice of meals catering for all budgets. The service was as friendly and attentaive as always.

Great atmosphere- not too quiet or too noisy. Lovely food, particularly the delicious sourdough bread and pecans pie. Prices vary so you can pick depending on budget. Mentioned birthday celebration on booking so my son was sung to by several waiters, despite the place being packed out. Loved it and will come again!
