A hidden gem surrounded by the shops and theatres of Covent Garden, Joe Allen is a highly regarded restaurant serving a selection of American and European specialities.
Ideally located for a pre-theatre meal or for dinner after the show, Joe Allen is quietly tucked away on Exeter Street just a five-minute walk away from Covent Garden underground station. Nearby theatres include The Lyceum, Novello Theatre and Duchess Theatre, as well as the Fortune Theatre and Theatre Royal. Joe Allen is also a great destination for a special brunch, lunch or dinner when shopping or staying in one of the hotels around Covent Garden and on the Strand.
Opened in 1977 as a stylish London dining venue for theatre-goers, artists, journalists and performers alike, Joe Allen has a relaxed, casual feel throughout. Today the healthy cuisine and friendly atmosphere attract an eclectic clientele of the West End's young and trendy crowd, romantic couples and families.

Always a terrific atmosphere here. The photos and occasional famous face make it a great experience. I’ve been about half a dozen times over the last couple of years and although the new premises are the same, I think they are better but can’t quite explain why. I’ve always enjoyed the food and my ribeye steak was cooked exactly to my requirements.

Excellent as always! I’m only in London once or twice a year, but always make a point of coming to Joe Allen’s!
I always have the steak as it is amazing! My friend a,so had the steak which she really enjoyed.

We sat at a window table and enjoyed the breeze. My crispy squid was just that. The garlic bread was good - lots of it, too much for me to eat. My companions blueberry pancakes were pronounced excellent.

Excellent service and atmosphere. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Thought the menu had more limited choice than last time I visited - particularly for my vegan daughter. Thought that the vegetable tempura starter was poor but the main course (sea bass fillet) was perfectly cooked and presented. It is the ambience that I like the most and am a little sad that Joe Allen's has moved from the original restaurant as I went there back in the 1980s when I was a deputy stage manager at the Barbican.

NY-style restaurant with lots of theatre and music posters and portrait photos. They had a live pianist when I was there (good, not too loud), which was very atmospheric. Food was good-sized portions, tasty, and the chips were excellent. Relaxed.

Aside from waiter dropping some of my Temura vegetables on the floor and another lot on my new Ralph Lauren shirt. Leaving a grease stain. Thanks for that.
Aside from that.
It was ok !!!!

I enjoyed dining Joe Allen. The best thing about this place is the service. Everyone is extremely friendly and accommodating. I made a booking for 2 then decided to bring an extra person. The gentleman at the door said it was no problem and promptly gave us a larger table. Though our booking was for a 2 hour sitting, we were not rushed out and left to enjoy our meal and drinks. The food was nice, though not outstanding. I would say it was good food for the price you pay. The goats cheese starter was awesome though! Not even a fan of goats cheese but this was tasty. This is a very lively venue so not necessarily ideal for anything intimate but excellent for catching up with friends. Had a great night.
