A group of us visited the Stratford restaurant last night for my father in laws birthday. There were 6 adults and 3 children.
The service and the food was fine.
However, I was really surprised at reaction from the waiter when it came to us paying the bill.
Two of us paid separately as we had ordered far more than the other four adults. Our bill came to approx £125 including £14.40 service charge. The other bill came to approx £95.
My sister in-law asked for the service charge to be removed from her bill and the waiters reaction was surprisingly aggressive. He raised his voice and asked loudly 3 times whether there was somthing wrong with the service. She did not have chance to respond that she was going to leave a cash tip before he snatched the bill from her hand and walked off.
I was at the other end of the table and when he came to me for me to pay I said ‘I’m paying my service charge’ and he couldn’t make eye contact and didn’t say a word. He was visible furious. And, in my opinion, behaving unacceptably and displaying passive aggressive tendencies.
The service charge is optional and it wasn’t as if he wasn’t getting a tip. He refused to speak to us for the rest of the time we were there.
Part of the reason that My sister in law wanted to leave a lesser tip was because at one point during the evening her 9 month old vomited, She cleaned the baby, but some of the vomit went on the floor. The waiter handed her some cardboard to clean it up with, not a cloth, not a mop, was on her hands and knees cleaning the floor with the piece of cardboard.
My real concern though is his reaction and subsequent behaviour . He became aggressive and visibly angry

Ok. Not particularly impressed and probably wouldn’t go back

Jamie Oliver may have his name over the door but he certainly would not want to eat here. It took 15 minutes for a waiter to take our drinks order and another 15 minutes to serve them. similar with the food order so waited over an hour before the food was served. The Chicken was overcooked & dry as were the chips. Clearly they were not freshly cooked. We constantly had to ask for condiments and sauces to go with the meal with every waiter forgetting to bring them to the table. Hang your head in shame Jamie!!

The service was bad.we ordered the roast dinner, 2 pork belly and 2 roast chicken. It arrived cold and we were the first dinners for lunch at 12 o’clock. The vegetable arrived some 5 minutes later. I mean vegetable, the four of us had 1 carrot sliced in half and 1 piece of potatoe and some over cooked broccoli each. The menu read half a chicken each and the waitress said do you know it’s a leg and breast is that ok. Lost in translation she meant to say one or the other. At £14:95 it’s overpriced.

Lovely place to eat. Really busy and nice buzzy atmosphere as a result. Really nice team in the restaurant

We booked for 6.00pm as we were going to football. We only got seated at 6.30 and only then because we complained. No time for a starter and no apology. Once seated the service was okay and the food was good.

Shame there were only 3 red wines available out of the list of 10. Otherwise food and service were decent.
