Brought to you by one of the UK’s best-loved celebrity chefs and named in The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants 2015, James Martin’s eponymously-named restaurant is found within Manchester’s glitzy 235 Casino. An on-site ‘meat market’ sees guests step inside a cavernous walk-in meat fridge, which showcases cuts from the menu.
The seasonally-changing menu by James Martin is bursting with produce sourced from tried-and-tested butchers, fishmongers, game dealers, farmers and cheesemakers. Signature flavours might include Thai crab risotto, or coffee-crusted venison loin. Imaginative twists for dessert include white chocolate & whisky croissant pudding, or apple crumble soufflé. Traditional Sunday roasts with all the trimmings are also a firm favourite.
Perfectly matched to the menu, the wine list at James Martin in Manchester features old and New World bins, and experimental mixes are served at the adjoining Vega Lounge cocktail bar.
This classic British restaurant is set on its own mezzanine level, with edgy Great-Northern-warehouse styling including vintage fabrics and artwork, polished girders and exposed brickwork. Find restaurant James Martin just 3 minutes’ walk from Deansgate Train Station. Please note, guests must be aged 18 or over.

Excellent place. Can’t believe it’s hidden away in that casino!! Really impressed with the level of service and quality of food. I asked for well done steak and a different gravy to normal and both requests were accommodated without fuss and still tasted amazing. It’s also nice to eat somewhere that doesn’t feel the need to charge you for every little item you have as an extra. Meals should come complete with every condiment, sauce and side the dish needs and James Martin does this. Sunday roast comes with prefect amount of veg and gravy. Prices are excellent and what I deem to be fair and not at all overinflated. Menu is clear and concise and doesn’t contain any over the top fancy words that are just put there to make it look more than it is and give an excuse for charging over the odds. Desserts were beautifully made. I never thought bread and butter pudding would taste so good!! Drinks are good too and not overpriced. Setting is great and the industrial/casino/meat market feel is really different. Great musician playing the guitar too. Nice touch. The only negative point I have about the whole thing was the booking process and website. Neither are clear or easy to navigate or use. Online booking would not let me book Sunday lunch but showed availability for afternoon tea for 2 so had to book that then ring up restaurant to change for a Sunday lunch. We will definitely be coming here again and I would urge anyone reading this to book soon!

We chose the tasting menu with matching wines and it was great. Hard to pick out the star dish but the main course of lamb was fantastic. The service throughout the evening was superb.

The restaurant looked fantastic. The food was wonderful and staff very attentive . Just one minor issue was that some more light on the stairs from the bar to restaurant would be good..

The tasting menu was great. I had the veggie one and the only downside was that the leek tart was much too salty. Other than that it was good and my colleagues liked the non veggie tasting menu. We wouldn't have come if it had not been for the Manchester food and drink offer which was a good deal.

The menu was ‘hidden’ so only knew what we were eating once it arrived. Having been before, the dishes were not as good as previously and the wines presented were nowhere near as good with only one small glass of red wine being served of the 5 ‘wines’. We also got a rum cocktail which could not understand how it complemented the food and the ‘absence’ of rum was also disappointing. That said, the fish dish was excellent as were the starter dishes. Will we go back? Probably but more because of our first experience rather than the last one. Finally the staff were very nice but the delivery of the food was a little too quick should be more relaxed but that is only a personal view.
