What better way to enjoy a Sunday than in a cosy country pub with a great selection of British roasts starting from £6.95 – served all day and evening on Sundays using the freshest seasonal ingredients.
Tucked away in the historic town of Godalming, Inn on the Lake offers al fresco dining with beautiful lakeside views. Serving a menu of modern British cuisine with a Mediterranean influence, this refurbished gastro pub also comprises a large bar area with wooden and stone floors, nostalgic black-and-white artwork on the walls, and roaring fireplaces, as well as an airy dining area with suede chairs and cosy banquettes.
With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, the Inn on the Lake menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest available ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.
The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at the Inn on the Lake bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.
Inn on the Lake in Surrey is a 12-minute walk from Godalming Railway Station.

Staff were very decent but food ( vegan curry) was just spicy, pizza was grande and scallops & cauliflower divine! Was over charged for drinks by £37 so had a treat trying to settle the bill. Besides the small fiasco there it was a great time.

Booking was really easy on line - much better than having to phone. The serving staff were very attentive and friendly. The seats were incredibly heavy - almost too heavy to move, which for some people could be a problem. The meal itself was very acceptable, we pre-booked 3 roasts, including a vegetarian option. Two of the party had roast beef which was really tough and difficult to cut, steak knives would have been helpful, but the rest of the meal was lovely. It was great to have a proper vegetarian option, instead of just a plate full of veg and no gravy. The nut roast tasted good but it was very soggy and would have been better a little more crispy. These are minor criticisms but I think it's better to give comprehensive feedback so that things can be improved. Where we sat there was a very low ceiling and wooden floors which meant the noise level was very high and made it impossible for us to hold a conversation. I would definitely recommend it for a Sunday roast as it was good value for money but I would advise not to sit where we did due to the noise. Finally, one of our party was disabled and really struggled to get up all the steps. People should be warned of this on the website.

Love it here, we often pop in for a drink and pizza for the kids but on this occasion we were a large party of 11 for a birthday. The staff were attentive and friendly and were even happy for us to bring our own cake and provide the lighter/plates/forks etc. Great atmosphere and music.

Service very slow. 45 minute wait for starter. Then side dish came after main course when they should come together. Not great. Food average. Really expected better as it is not cheap.

The food is always good here with a large choice and regular changes to their menu. Unfortunately, the restaurant was very cold which doesn't make for an enjoyable dining experience and the waiter had an unusual manner, not really seeming to care about the customer's experience. When my friend finally chose her meal after so much deliberation with all the delicious choices it was disappointing to only be told at that stage that the spit-roasted chicken was unavailable.
