Recommended in the Michelin Guide, Imperial China London specialises in traditional Cantonese dishes and exquisite dim sum. Outside, a bridge sits over a carp pond surrounded by waterfalls, whilst the interior is bright and contemporary.

The Imperial China restaurant menu is led by signature seafood dishes and Chinese favourites. Sample fresh lobster with ginger and spring onion, fried squid with spicy salt and pepper, or the classic aromatic duck with pancakes. Other favourites include sweet and sour chicken, and stir-fried fillet steak cubes with mushrooms.

The Imperial China dim sum menu showcases handcrafted authentic recipes such as steamed pork dumplings and deep-fried pork pastries. From the bar, choose from a range of wines, beers and spirits.

Imperial China in Chinatown sits on the edge of Soho, just a 2-minute walk from Leicester Square Tube Station. The theatres of the West End, as well as Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden are all a short walk away.

Very disappointing! Having been to Imperial China on many occasions previously, as it is our preferred restaurant in Chinatown, they really let us down. We ordered dim sum and some main dishes and after waiting 20 mins for drinks we were rightly concerned. Whilst we had a new waitress this shouldn’t have been an issue but having waited over half an hour for the dim sum, we still hadn’t received the main course after an hour. Two tables came in after us and had finished their meal while we were still waiting for ours. I had to speak to the manager twice and explained the second time that my husband, who is severely diabetic, had to eat as he had injected his insulin. She kept saying the food was coming but it didn’t arrive so we asked for the bill. She gave us 10% off the bill but wasn’t very apologetic or bothered at all. It wasn’t about the discount for us it was the fact it ruined a lunch that we were looking forward to. Lunch in Chinatown is normally a quick but enjoyable experience but not at Imperial China so we won’t be back again. They have a captive audience but treat their customers appallingly.

Food was delicious. The waiting staff really need some personality injecting into themselves. They were miserable. Not very busy. The restaurant could do with some TLC as it's looking shabby.

Overall my Imperial China experience was pleasant. They brought over a small desert with a candle for my boyfriends birthday and sang happy birthday which was nice. The food was tasty and came within a good time frame, however one of the waitresses seemed like she didn't want to be working on a Saturday evening. I don't blame her but a nice 'how is your meal' or even a 'have a nice evening' the standard procedure wouldn't have gone a miss.

One of their headliners, The Peking Duck, was mediocre at best: skin not sufficiently crisp or thin; pancakes cold and dry. Shrimp toast greasy and tasteless. However, the cold mushrooms were spicy and fragrant, and the hot and sour soup was favorful. I was served a glass of Tsin Toa beer that I question if it was really Tsin Toa. I would neither recommend nor return to this restaurant. The service was minimal. The food was delivered, and the servers never returned. The discretionary gratuity of 12.5% was not warranted.

Sadly Imperial China is nowhere near as good as when it opened. When the staff were dressed smartly and the toilets and paintwork weren’t as lazy and tired as now. It’s lost it’s Imperialism.
