Hutong restaurant at The Shard in London also offers a delicately crafted selection of dim sum, and the menu's showstopper dish is Sichuan-style deep fried lobster, served with fresh red and green chillies, dried garlic and salted crispy black beans.
Offsetting its glittering glass façade, the Hutong dining room features traditional oriental décor, like smooth dark-wood panelling, and delicate patterned lanterns. Head to the glossy Shanghai Bar at The Shard for unrivalled views of the London skyline, and enjoy oriental-style cocktail mixes inspired by traditional Chinese medicine.

The experience and in particular, the food and service were exception. The deal is great value, especially given the location but the star was the food.

I've wanted to visit Hutong for sometime. The view is amazing, unfortunately we was not seated by the window and requested a window seat, apparently its a first come first serve policy but there were window tables free when we arrived, they were mostly given to Chinese people so the policy is questionable at best. The food was good, not great given the restaurants reputation, and the duck was on the fatty side which was a shame. Overall it was a pleasant restaurant experience, not good and certainly not great.

We had a seat at the window which was fantastic. Every seat has a pretty good view however. Food was ok but nothing to write home about. We had the fixed lunch menu for £39 including glass of bubbly. The dim sum was excellent but mid course was beef salad which was not so good - just slices of cold beef with chillies and fresh coriander. I would suggest vegetables course instead. Sea bass was in breadcrumb so not very imaginative. Greens were in sweet chilli sauce (same sauce as you can get in supermarket) and were impossible to cut so tricky with chopsticks. Perhaps the a la carte menu is better but I'm not inclined to go back for rhe food, only the location/view which is worth it on its own.

Opted for the set menu for lunch. Varied and included signature duck and enough for two people to share, Service was excellent and food came at the pace requested so never felt rushed. Wine steward excellent and was knowledgeable.
