Restaurant description

Bringing ground-breaking northern Chinese cuisine to one of London's most famous buildings, Hutong is housed on the 33rd floor of The Shard. From the sultry dining room at this restaurant in The Shard, floor-to-ceiling windows frame jaw-dropping views of the city. Enjoy creations inspired by dishes from the imperial palaces of Peking.

Inspired by its famous namesake restaurant in Hong Kong, the Hutong menu features favourite northern Chinese recipes served with contemporary flair. Head Chef and Sifu ('master' in traditional Chinese culture), Fei Wang, showcases his vast culinary experience honed across China and the UK. Enjoy acclaimed signature dishes at this Shard restaurant, like Chinese asparagus heart with hula dressing, and Red Star noodles: watch the waiter open a crown of red peppers to unveil a Sichuan broth with perfectly steamed halibut, rice noodles and gong vegetables. Hutong restaurant at The Shard in London also offers a delicately crafted selection of dim sum, and the menu's showstopper dish is Sichuan-style deep fried lobster, served with fresh red and green chillies, dried garlic and salted crispy black beans.

Offsetting its glittering glass façade, the Hutong dining room features traditional oriental décor, like smooth dark-wood panelling, and delicate patterned lanterns. Head to the glossy Shanghai Bar at The Shard for unrivalled views of the London skyline, and enjoy oriental-style cocktail mixes inspired by traditional Chinese medicine.

A spectacular addition to the London restaurant scene, Hutong restaurant at The Shard is found adjacent to London Bridge Tube and Train stations.

No reservations are taken for the bar, which operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The dress code is smart casual, and entry will not be allowed to those wearing shorts, sports kit, flip-flops or sports shoes.

A pleasant experience with well trained and efficient staff. The food was delicious (although my husband should have ordered more as the portions aren't large!) and the views spectacular.

Awful Service !! Inspite of booking 3weeks in advance n mentioning details etc !! Tried calling the Reception as well very rude staff !! The tofu dish was sooo sweet seemed like the poured the entire honey bottle !! Made me wait 45 mins for the wrong dessert n the bill as well !! After such an experience ITS NOT WORTH IT FOR THE VALUE OF MONEY !!

We thought that the whole experience was amazing. The food was truly delicious, the service impeccable - we had a lovely waiter called Brandon. The views were fabulous despite it being quite a grey day. We will definitely visit again.

The set lunch menu was good value, considering the prices here. It wasn't offered though, despite booking it I had to ask for it. Service was a bit patchy. Sometimes attentive and charming, at others the waiting staff stood in a huddle having a good chat amongst themselves and ignoring customers. I don't expect to have to find a waiter to ask for water at these prices. The wine waiter was better and did keep our glasses topped up. We had a window table and the views were good, though they're better on the other side of the building. The food was delicious and the portions plentiful for us. Not much atmosphere during the day I have to say and somehow didn't have that luxury feel you get in the top restaurants. Our main dishes were brought before we had finished the starter so we felt rushed. This was compounded when our bill was brought without us asking for it despite it being 30 minutes before the end of our time slot. We weren't offered tea or coffee. I didn't leave a tip. I paid the service charge as some of the staff were helpful and the food was excellent.
