Restaurant description

Located close to Whitechapel and within easy reach of the Tower of London, the Hoop and Grapes serves classic British pub dishes in a warm, welcoming environment. Housed in a restored timber-framed building, the pub survived the Great Fire of London in 1666.

Since Nicholson’s pubs were first established in 1873, these traditional British inns have become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality range of ales. As well as always featuring British pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips and gammon & eggs, the Hoop and Grapes menu is complemented by a rotating selection of pie, sausage & chop and fish specials for each season.

The Hoop and Grapes bar is always stocked with exquisite gins, warming whiskies and fine wines to pair with favourite meals, and there’s always a superb range of seasonal and regional real ales on offer. A constant at the bar is the St Austell-brewed Nicholson’s Pale Ale, made with Cornish Maris Otter malts, and a hand-picked blend of English hops.

Hoop and Grapes in Aldgate is a 1-minute walk from Aldgate Tube Station. Aldgate East Tube Station is a 3-minute walk away.

Good natural light. Swift service, which is important as we only have an hour for lunch! All dishes are well presented and look lovely. I wasn't too impressed with the rib eye steak as it had way too much fat in it, but all other dishes ive had here are great.

I booked a table for 8 - ladies who used to work together, sometime ago! Food was very good as was the service. We were not hurried in any way - after our lunch we sat and chatted staying at the table we had booked. We all said we would book again, without doubt.
