Our party of six enjoyed the visit. The service was good overall, not particularly knowledgeable about the food but smiling, speedy, responsive, engaged - much improved from my only previous visit some months before.
The food was very good. The ambience was attractive and relaxed.
More guidance on main dishes would have been helpful. Ordering side dishes was necessary because the main orders were not large but we didn't realise that the side dishes would be enough for two to share.
Unusually none of our party ordered puddings. The selections on offer sounded limited and unappealing.

I am a fan of The Heathcock's cuisine and most of my party enjoyed their meal but my own main course was a little disappointing this time. The main issue, though, was that my party of five people was placed directly next to another large group who were very loud so we could sometimes not hear each other speak. I would suggest that large groups should be placed at tables well away from each other, not adjacent. As for the food, two of us ordered a special lamb dish to share that was displayed on the board on the wall, very early in the evening sitting... a slow-cooked lamb dish. Only 10 minutes later did the waitress come back to tell us that this dish was not available and that instead it would be a different cut of lamb, so we changed our order to the lamb dish on the normal menu instead. I specifically said I did not want my lamb pink but when it came it was very pink. Disappointing. How it could happen so early in the evening that a special dish of the day displayed on the board on the wall could not be available, and the waiting staff could not know that in advance, is a question no-one could answer. Better luck next time... though I do feel the choice of dishes could sometimes be a little more wide-ranging.

Good and service were great but I was disappointed that despite booking weeks in advance we were sat in the annex of the restaurant. It was completely empty (except us) and therefore lacked any sort of atmosphere!

Absolutely lovely food, delicious lamb especially and my son loved the Kentucky fried rabbit. We enjoyed the meal but were really disappointed at the service. We were slow to be served and it seemed a bit haphazard for ordering. I also wonder why when serving a welsh cheese board we were not told or given any labels for the cheeses, all of which were delicious in their anonymity. I hate giving a negative review as the food was really lovely but after telling them specifically it was my daughters birthday and hence a celebration it was a bit disappointing that no-one mentioned it and that we were on the table by the toilets.
As I say a wonderful meal but the restaurant was either struggling with staff that night or needs to step up so that the service and ambience matches the gastro experience.

The Heathcock offers not only interesting food sourced I think locally most of the time but it also has very good staff. The monkfish with samphire was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed the hanger steak. I have eaten there several times now and think it is an excellent addition to the Llandaf dining options.

We were allocated a good table slightly separated from other guests, as I had requested. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. We were there a long time but were not hurried... unlike in some restaurants where you linger. My guest had oysters which he said were excellent, followed by sardines. I had sardines followed by confit of duck... all very good.

Visited with a friend. The service was efficient and friendly, could not have asked for better. The food was of a superb quality. Will definitely be going back to the Heathcock now that we have discovered it and would have no hesitation recommending it to anyone . Thanks for a great experience.
