Looking for somewhere with good food and not rushed to leave the table. Haxells definitely delivered with good good, excellent service and we're happy for the group of us to stay at table and chat.

It was lovely not to be in a crowded restaurant and really appreciate not having people so close to you that you can hear their conversations which is so common these days. It is a lovely, clean and spacious restaurant. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Food and drink service was very good and we didn't have to wait very long, and we weren't rushed. A very enjoyable experience.

Really great pre theatre dining experience. Beautiful decor, attentive staff, delicious food for a very reasonable price. £20 for two courses- can’t go wrong. Lime and chilli calamari is absolutely delicious, as is their chicken main course dish. Right across the road from 9-to-5 the Dolly Parton musical. Perfect location.

We arrived at Haxells and were shown into the back part of the restaurant which was comfortable and quiet. Then the waitress told us that for lunch we had to eat in the main section which is part of the wider lobby area of the hotel - the quiet, comfortable section was only for afternoon tea. We asked if we could stay where we were but it was not possible. We were taken to a table in the main section but it was uncomfortable and noisy so we decided to leave. The two waitresses were extremely polite so I cannot criticise them in any way, but we were very disappointed to be expected to eat in such soulless surroundings. Joe Allen's is attached to the hotel so we ate there but overall the feeling was of disappointment and I would urge you to remove lunch at Haxells if they continue to insist on using the outer area.

A group of 6 Ladies met before going to the theatre. We were expected and given a warm welcome. The service was helpful and efficient. We chose a variety of dishes for lunch- vegetarian, lamb kofta, club sandwiches all were well served and sensibly priced. A very enjoyable experience before going to the theatre.

I met up with four old college friends for lunch here. It was ideal. We had a lovely round table, the service was great but unobtrusive. The food was tasty with good sized portions. For a Saturday lunchtime the restaurant was rather empty but filled up a bit later into the afternoon. Perhaps it was because it was a very hot bank holiday weekend, everybody probably stayed at home. The prices were good bearing in mind we were in central London. From the outside the Strand Palace Hotel looks very old and elegant, inside it's very new and elegant! Would go there again.

We miss the old Strand Palace carvery restaurant, which was a family favourite, but Haxells is a worthy alternative. Staff members were attentive and polite, food was very good, and prices reasonable for London. The decor is well lit, spacious, and pleasant. Some minor quibbles: piped-in music was too loud (we asked for it to be turned down, but volume is controlled by the lobby, not the restaurant), some food had far too much salt, and the waiter forgot my meal (out of a party of seven) and another diner's drink, but made up for it reasonably quickly and deducted the cost of some small items by way of compensation. Despite this, we'll no doubt return. A very good restaurant for central London.
