It's a great dining experience. Well worth going just for the building

Praised by many as the UK’s finest steak restaurant, Hawksmoor Edinburgh is housed within the Grade A-listed former National Bank of Scotland Banking Hall. Refurbished to celebrate the building’s original features, the restaurant draws upon the amazing produce Scotland has to offer.

Headed by a range of door wedge-thick ‘large cuts’ ordered by desired weight (and ideal for sharing), the Hawksmoor menu also offers premium steak cuts, fresh fish and an array of luxury sides. Along with prime meat cuts from small British farms, enjoy indulgences like potted beef with bacon and Yorkshires, or roast scallops with tarragon & garlic. Must-try puddings include peanut butter shortbread with salted caramel ice cream, and pineapple and coconut pavlova.

The Sunday roast, voted the best in the UK by Observer Food Monthly, is served with perfected trimmings, with meat cuts including a slow-roast rump, or slow-roast prime rib. A revolutionary cocktail list at Hawksmoor in Edinburgh includes categories like ‘eye opening’ anti-fogmatics, and light afternoon ‘bridging drinks’.

Find Edinburgh’s Hawksmoor restaurant a short walk from Waverley Station.

Please note, Sunday roasts are not available after 5pm.

Fabulous surroundings, excellent rump steak main, best steak I’ve had for ages.

BUT... why oh why do you spoil the ambience of such a sedate classy environment by playing screechy pop music??? I asked for a change, but was told it was a Hawskmoor playlist, carefully chosen to be a 'bit of everything'.... Noooo. If you can’t have quiet laid back jazz or classical, then even better than that is to play nothing, because you can’t please everybody.

Also, I thought the waiting staff were very casually dressed - faded jeans and checked shirts.

But again, it was the best steak ever! Pity about the ambience.

IT WAS DISAPPOINTING. We arrived at 6.30pm and were one of the first people there. We ordered our meal and were told that the CHICKEN WOULD TAKE A BIT LONGER TO PREPARE!!! Over an hour later we were still sitting there, tired after working, wine nearly finished and eventually the food appeared. We could and should have complained however it leaves a low finish to a night. As avid eaters out at the best of restaurants and an expensive meal, it did not add up to expectations.

Lamb like plastic, shiny and clearly heated up.
One lager option, a small can of something I have never heard of before and although it cost just under £5 was tasteless.
Clear evidence that the customers are not rolling in (probably due to the ongoing works outside) and so the product is declining along with reduced investment.

We booked the Express deal, £25 for two courses with a drink. It was lovely! The food was delicious, a very good choice. I decided to have the rump steak, which I don’t usually order, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The free drink was fantastic and my husband enjoyed his beer. Portion sizes were great. Not too big but definitely enough. We will certainly return here in the near future

Meal was excellent, I had the prawns as a starter, very nice then my son and I shared a porterhouse perfectly cooked with triple cooked chips. We shared a number of sides between the three of us who were dining

We entered from St Andrews Square entrance to the restaurant as we had had a cocktail on 4th Floor beforehand. There needs to be some sort of welcome other that waiters who are busy serving, it was our first time and we didn't know where 'reception' was. Waitress came and showed us very nicely.
