The staff were extremely attentive and the service was excellent. The food was exquisite I had the chicken with a fantastic sauce although not nearly enough a small jug to accompany the dish would have given it a score of 10. The scallop dish was absolutely lovely especially the cauliflower puree. The birthday plate was great. The restaurant looked stunning with the glasses twinkling against the candlelight creating a warm setting. There were only 4 choices on the menu main section and we wouldn't usually choose chicken or pork. We like steaks and lamb and would have happily paid more for them given the choice. As chef I realise that kitchen banter happens however during our dessert it was really loud as we sat at the table nearest the breakfast area and we were the only diners left so no chatting etc noise from other diners to detract from the streaks of laughter and raised voices from the kitchen etc. Unfortunately there were only 2 other tables dining and they both left early leaving little atmosphere except of course the beautiful ambiance of the twinkling glasses and the candles. After the 2 tables left the staff started to lay up for breakfast and I noticed how quietly the waiter was when removing glasses etc. They tried to keep the clanking to a minimum and at first started with the end furthest away from our table but to it was much more noticeable as it neared, this we could of ignored but what absolutely ruined the evening for us was that one of the first things they did before laying up was blow out all the candles. The atmosphere was lost and we felt unwelcome and in the way. We wanted leave asap making hubbies birthday evening last just 1 hour returning to our room by 9.30 having booked for 8.30. Please consider leaving the atmospheric candles alight until ALL the guests have left. The breakfast things could still have been laid up whilst alight. Breakfast was the worst I have EVER experienced on Saturday but very pleasant on Sunday.

No a la carte on offer. The grounds need lit up to see them during the winter - otherwise there is no sense of place when dining. A bit of a travelodge feeling during the week.
