A good dining experience we didn't opt for starters but 2 small glasses of soup turned up which was very tasty mushroom, garlick & herbs. There was also duck pate and homemade bread.
Main course was nice Duck and the other course steak + a smamm steak pie & triple cooked chips. There could have been more of the sauce with each dish - a bit dry. Baked Alaska desert brilliant.
Wine was quite expensive £29 for a bottle of Muscadet.

Clearly a restaurant that cares about food and cooks it well, plus it is in an atmospheric pub with good beer. Some inconsistency in portion sizes in the main courses - overly large portion of duck breast but overly small portions of John Dory. Also the only vegetarian choice was asparagus for both starter and main. However, excellent duck sausages and overall a place I'd like to go back to.

Like many restaurants nowadays, the stripped back decor plus moderately loud music made conversation difficult for those of us with ageing ears.

Good overall lunch experience - pleasant informal atmosphere , reasonable prices , good service and food. Hake dish was excellent as were both sweets - would have preferred beef dish not to have been served already plated and gravy was disappointing.

Downsides were physical aspects of restaurant - lack of parking ( especially having to park in local residential area ) and uncomfortable proximity of toilet facility to dining area.

Our first visit and we were very impressed. Really liked the nice touches such as the delicious complimentary home made bread and pate amuse bouche. A particular highlight was the rhubarb souffle. Great seasonal menu and different to the boring norm. Attentive and charming young staff too. We will be back.
