Restaurant description

Formerly the cobbled driveway to the original station, Hansom Lounge at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel London offers a selection of light bites and refined afternoon tea. The historic building has retained many original features including a vaulted roof and Barlow Blue girders.

Light bites on the Hansom Lounge menu include fresh sandwiches, such as the St Pancras Club, salads, and hearty burgers with fries. Sharing boards include a cured British Meat Board. To finish your meal the Hansom lounge offers a great range of desserts including a Valrhona Chocolate tart or a Seasonal Berry Pavlova.

Afternoon tea at the Hansom Lounge King's Cross exudes quintessential indulgence. Start with a selection of sandwiches that embrace European tradition with a modern twist, including the likes of the Jambon Blanc Flume, Salmon Dutch pancakes and the Cucumber sandwich. The sweet section of the menu was finely selected to provide the perfect accompaniment to the savoury, completing the European picture with the likes of the Paris-Brest-Paris or Strawberries and Cream and of course the classic Scones, Cream and Jam. As well as a range of teas, the afternoon tea menu is topped off by a choice of cocktails and champagne.

Housed in an iconic building, Hansom Lounge London sits next to Kings Cross and St Pancras Rail Stations.

Despite the website saying "As well as a range of teas, the afternoon tea menu is topped off by a choice of cocktails and champagne" please be aware that the drinks are not included in the standard offer. I think it is easy to assume it is from the website if you don't look at the second page of the menu - leading to disappointment. Overall the tea was acceptable if a little rich - particularly the cakes. The promised music didn't materialise and our table was close to the hotel check in desk so there was a lot of activity constantly.

Despite of part of the lounge is under renovation, we were impressed. The waitress, who is from Romania, was very helpful and attentive. We love her hospitality. Not to mention the gorgeous staircase that drew me here in the first place.

We had the afternoon tea .Very welcoming and excellent staff and good food but not cheap and thought it unnecessary to charge for extra tea

The ambiance is exceptional - the restaurant being part of a historic train station building . However the food was mediocre - the bread for the sandwiches was NOT fresh , the ingredients in the sandwiches ( for the tea ) were unexceptional, the tea cakes - were of average supermarket quality ( as were the teas !) Service was inattentive , not impressed . Would not return to this restaurant .

Impeccable service and stunning location. The savoury serving was incredible, and our dietary requirements were met with no trouble at all. The scones were lovely and fluffy, however two person meant we were quite full when the time for the sweet serving came about. The chocolate and Dulce de leche piece was a clear winner, while the strawberry and vanilla mousse missed the mark for us. Perhaps more strawberry and less mousse? Everything was beautifully created and served, and the tea selection was great, as was the hot chocolate. Thank you!

It was amazing food, place and service. English scones were really great taste. We can try to drink some kind of tea. And also we can get refill any time.

It was the worst afternoon tea I have ever had. Dry roasted pepper sandwich, tomato and avocado sandwich never got the smoked salmon pancake. The sandwiches were dry. I thought the service was slow and poor.

It was a lovely afternoon tea, our hostess was so friendly and when we told her we were celebrating our 43rd wedding anniversary she came back with a surprise platter of macaroons amongst the wording Happy Anniversary. This is my second afternoon tea there and it certainly won't be my last! The sandwiches and cakes were delicious and the superb choice of teas only added to the wonderful building's thoughtful interiors of taste and sophistication!
