Great meal - brilliant value and the flavours were really good. Service also excellent, shame it wasn’t a little busier but certainly didn’t detract from the experience

Celebrating the traditional South African braai, Hammer & Tongs specialises in generous portions of succulent meats. Juicy steaks and ribs are marinated in secret herbs and spices, and served alongside a diverse South African wine list, signature cocktails and craft beers in a warm, inviting setting.

The Hammer & Tongs menu is centred around the traditional South African barbecue, known as a braai. Imported Sekelbos wood from Namibia is used to smoke the beef, pork, chicken and fish dishes, with delicacies including spiced pork belly skewers with Granny Smith apple and cider compote, and boerewors beef sausage served with homemade chutney. The restaurant also bakes its own beer bread, and features a selection of gourmet salads for non meat eaters.

Sunday roasts at Hammer & Tongs in Farringdon are given a South African twist, with spatchcock chicken served with pork and peppadew stuffing, and all the trimmings. For pudding there are exotic sweet treats like chilli grilled pineapple with ginger ice cream and toasted coconut, while the bar mixes up all kinds of signature cocktails.

A social restaurant in London filled with a laid-back South African vibe, Hammer & Tongs is a 9-minute walk from Farringdon Rail Station.

Excellent service and the food is absolutely superb! It is an interesting mix representing all parts of South African cuisine. The Boerewors is really nice and the Cape Malay Fish is so traditional, you close your eyes and you see Table Mountain. They have a very good and extensive drinks menu and it is so fantastic to see Groot Constantia on a menu. They do however need to add Bobotie to the menu... and Melktert...and Castle!

Really loved it. The food, the service, the atmosphere. The black cab driver said “great restaurant” as we were getting out of the car and he was right.

The Sunday roast was excellent and really good value for money. I would highly recommend the boerewors and braai broodjies.

The smell of the wood braai creates a truly South African experience.

Really enjoyed it. Had the surf and turf share for 2. Good food, well prepared. Good service. Nearer Farringdon Station would have been nice though!
