The hotel is beautiful, but the restaurant menu did not match the setting and was more like pub grub.

I booked to dine here every day of our 3 night stay, but having had a terrible breakfast, where we had to clean our own bowls first, before we could have our cereal, told by another guest that there was a bug in the apple juice the day before, there was only 5 grapes and 2 segments of apple in the fruit selection, and the cooked breakfast was cold with rubbery bouncy eggs, we cancelled our bookings for all future breakfasts. Also, it was my husbands 50th birthday during our stay, so I had previously booked online and requested something for this for the meal. I was promised a cake with sparklers, etc. However, nothing happened, and there was not surprise for him. I had the surprise!! Nothing!! The meals were expensive for what we had put in front of us. We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights, and raised our concerns during the time. At the end of the stay, we loaded our car and sat in the grounds to write our list of concerns to pass on to the hotel staff. There were a total of 12 issues of concern. However, when we went into reception to settle our bill, the receptionist informed us that she had already taken the total amount from my debit card and written a note on her paperwork "Room empty...guests lefts without payment".. We were not happy as the hotel had our car registration details on record, and the car was still in the carpark. Also, no discount had been deducted, which was on our printed paperwork for booking online. So, what was the point in putting any special requirements or taking advantage of privileges of booking in advance online if it isn't to be acknowledged. I still await a response from the hotel manager....another promise made by the receptionist for a free stay at the hotel for the 12 issues we raised between the restaurant and accommodation.

The staff were very cheery and helpful. The food was excellent, piping hot on arrival and very tasty. My fish and chips were the best I've tasted. The extra touch to make our 25th wedding anniversary celebration memorable was lovely too.

We pre-booked our table, however when we arrived in the dinning room our table was occupied. The server tried to sort it out, but we were then shown to another table. We were placed in a smaller area where the rest of the people in there were all from one family, although sitting at different tables they proceeded to have a family party, even playing card games. It was a nightmare to try and have a conversation over the noise. This family were oblivious to what disruption they were causing. It was such a shame as the food was very good, I very much enjoyed the trout dish and my husband had the steak which was delicious. We could not get out of the dinning room quickly enough. I spoke to the receptionist who was very helpful and found the restaurant manager for me. After explaining our experience, he apologized and organized for us to have dessert free of charge in our room. I have to commend the staff for listening to our complaint and trying to make things right.
