The food was exceptional. We chose the 5 course menu. Each course came with a full description of each ingredient, where it was sourced and how it was cooked. All done by friendly and knowledgable staff. Only 2 criticisms. Firstly, upon arrival we were escorted to a bar with a view of the prep area where the maitre de described the local ingredients that would be used in all the dishes that evening, followed by a selection of beautifully prepared hors-derves. So far so good. It was then suggested they would go very well with a glass of vintage Dom Perignon. As I was the host for the evening, and with my guests in full view, it was difficult to decline. 6 glasses were charged at 30 euros a glass. Really bad form. I assume they make the same suggestion with all guests, however I felt they had taken advantage of the situation. A menu of sparkling wines of various prices should be offered in the future.
My second criticism, and this is purely my personal view, is the dinner was served over a four hour period which was too long for us, particularly after of full day of skiing. Others may argue the hours were matched by the quality of the food.
In summary, Griggeler `Stuba is an exceptional, very special dining experience. The food is prepared to the highest standards with the finest Austrian seasonal ingredients and cannot be faulted. However, be prepared for a long evening in your chair and and an extraordinary bill at the end.
