Nestled on the fringes of Dartmoor National Park, the Great Western at Bovey Castle epitomises tranquillity with its rural setting. Guests can enjoy classic British food in a relaxed dining room that recalls the allure of the restaurant’s Art Deco origins.

The Great Western menu features locally produced, exceptional food, all of which is beautifully presented. Scallops with an emulsion of cockles, clams and oyster are a spectacular starter while the roast suckling pig with confit turnip and spiced quince makes for a sumptuous main course. The impressive wine list at Bovey Castle near Newton Abbot is filled with meticulously sourced bottles.

A delectable array of desserts includes warm banana soufflé with corn ice cream and malt toffee sauce, and a creative chocolate tree stump with lime and cardamom.

Guests can pre-arrange transport to this fine dining restaurant in Devon with the hotel. Newton Abbot Train Station is a 40-minute drive from Bovey Castle.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The dining area was very comfortable and the view was amazing. There was a great selection of treats and it was a nice touch to be able to rake the left over cakes home.

Wonderful Sunday lunch. Staff superb as usual. Service faultless.

Great location, wonderful atmosphere, beautiful interior and wonderful exterior.

Insufficient, inefficient and unattentive service staff, Service members didn't pay enouth attention to the guests (very long waiting times, no enquiries if everything was to our satisfaction or if we needed something, tables not being cleaned up after guests for one hour, bill could only be settled at the cassier and not at the table). Staff didn't meet our expecations for a five star hotel at all !

Friendly welcome and seating in the chimney-room, After another service member brougth the menu we were there like forgotten. We had to tell the front desk we were ready to order. There were 5 different service staff members, but we had to wait one hour for our food (Afternoon Tea)! Everybody kept telling us, that food was on its way. The waitress brougth aonther tea than ordered (we drank this one) and never asked about a second helping (for this price more tea would have been more than appropriate).

We enjoyed afternoon tea at Bovey Castle. The setting, including the castle and the scenery, is amazing. The tea was good but we have had better food. The service was very friendly. We would recommend a visit to Bovey Castle to anyone who is visiting the Devon region.

Great afternoon tea with friends for a birthday celebration. The food was lovely and although maybe a bit pricey compared with other places for a similar afternoon tea experience the setting and scenery more than made up for this and I'd definetly recommend Bovey to others for a relaxed sophisticated treat. Staff were welcoming and helpful at all times and we didn't really want to leave!

A beautiful place to visit. The weather was glorious so we were able to sit out on the terrace. The pot of tea was enormous, the cakes and sandwiches tasty and dainty. One afternoon tea comprised 4 sandwiches, 4 cakes, two scones with cream and a Welsh cake.
