Inspired by Cumbria’s rich history as a centre of the spice trade, Gilpin Spice Windermere offers a menu which sees Cumbrian favourites joined by influences picked up along the spice trail all the way to Japan.
The Gilpin Spice menu is split into smaller and larger sharing plates, showcasing an eclectic range of flavours. From the open kitchen come tapas-style, pan-Asian dishes, with influences as diverse as the Philippines, the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and China.
Amidst the stunning scenery of the Lake District, Gilpin Spice Cumbria is a 20-minute drive from Kendal Rail Station.

Great food, very exciting menu, so much to choose from. Lovely bright dining room and excellent staff. And good value too.

Really nice meal with friendly staff and reasonable price.
Although we enjoyed the meal it was a little disappointing at the same time.
We had tandoori chicken flat bread and the chicken was dry.
The octopus was beautiful but very small portion for 2 people, the prawn and muscle was delicious but the pork belly a little dry and very over seasoned with thyme; noodles are noodles so no issues.
We just expected a little more wow.

We had a great evening at Gilpin Spice. Good advice about how many dishes to order and everything we tried was amazing. We never felt rushed and were asked if we wanted to have a break between courses. The gin cocktails were excellent too! A lovely atmosphere in the restaurant with attentive staff. We will definitely return on our next visit to the Lakes!

Warmly welcomed by the head waiter we were led into a vibrant and colourful restaurant.
The menu is a glorious mix of Indian and Asian flavour explosions, with smaller and larger sharing plates on offer. Happily led by the waiting staff as to amount to order.
Would particularly recommend the chaat and laaksi as these stole the show for our party.
Good selection of oriental beer to complement. Had a brilliant meal and would definitely recommend.

Good generally, but one dish was missed from our order and when we enquired about it, the waitress’s attitude was not good. Instead of saying she would check, she came back and said we had not ordered it, when in fact it had been missed off. The dish arrived eventually but the correct procedure would have been to check and not to blame us. Otherwise the food was excellent and the service good apart from that incident. Perhaps more training required here? The restaurant was noisy later on, and we were pleased we dined early.
