Formerly a fully functioning gym and the venue for the first National Olympic Games in 1866, German Gymnasium is now a sparkling representation of a European Grand Café. Dine on the mezzanine level overlooking the main floor, or at the chic Meister Bar.
The German Gymnasium menu is German-inspired and includes a selection of Mittel-European dishes, though is by no means limited to it. A more formal dining experience on the mezzanine level, the restaurant offers the likes of veal schnitzel with lingonberry compote, and whole slow-roast free-range goose with braised red cabbage.
Traditional desserts include Black Forest gateau, apple strudel with vanilla sauce, and a selection of farmhouse cheeses with fig mustard. Find the Meister cocktail bar upstairs, and sample one of the intricately designed foam cocktails, or a light bite from the bar’s menu.
German Gymnasium in King’s Cross offers 3 different dining areas, each with accompanying menus. This highly original creation from D&D is situated opposite the entrance to St Pancras International Station.

We were disappointed to say the least, we waited over 30 minutes for a drink and we were in the restaurant, service was not good and food not To the standard of the prices , not nice presentation. We were offered the drinks reduction but for this level of restaurant it was not good.

This is a restaurant to be seen in or to impress clients, not one to experience great food. On both of my visits, once for lunch and the other for dinner I was more impressed with the venue, the decor, the service than I was with the food. I am not a big fan of the menu, the portions are small, and there’s nothing too exciting. There is not much choice either, especially for gluten free, vegan, or healthier options. The venue itself is beautiful with plenty of period details, some great art, and tasteful decor. If you like to pamper yourself, your friends, or your clients on a day you’re not peckish, then a visit is highly recommended. If you want a truly gastronomic experience with exciting options, or if you’re hungry for a good burger, this is not the place for you

It is a fabulous venue with great food and really friendly staff (although both it and they were pretty busy)
