Restaurant description

Fittingly housed next door to one of the world’s most famous meat markets, Gaucho Smithfield specialises in premium Argentine steaks. A cool, New York-style ambience comes courtesy of glittering glass panels and leather-clad circular booths.

Taking inspiration from vibrant South American culture, the Gaucho menu presents an array of bold natural flavours. Fresh ingredients are sourced from Argentina and used to compile favourite dishes, like king prawns with black pudding and fresh orange, or a trio of juicy beef medallions.

Renowned for its dramatically decorated dining rooms, Gaucho restaurants feature swathes of plush black and white leather and rich cowhide stools, all offset by twinkling chandeliers. Contemporary and edgy, Gaucho in London also offers traditional grappa, glamorous cocktails, and fine wines from Argentina’s most celebrated growing regions.

Perched between the thriving City and creative hub of Clerkenwell, Smithfield Gaucho draws in an eclectic, fashionable crowd. Barbican Station is a 4-minute walk away.

Lovely dinning experience for the price, £25 (£28 & change with service added charge) for a set 3 course and glass of chandon sparkling wine. (Note they display the same offer at restaurant for £24.50 minus the glass of bubbly). The service was good, lady was very friendly and attentive, however she seemed to be waiting by herself at one point, while her colleagues wondered around not doing much. The only complaint was the seating by the window was very uncomfortable as the chairs were very low, so legs were at an awkward angle. So if you have an problems with knees, legs, back etc best to ask to be seated at one of regular dining tables or booths. All in all was a lovely dining experience for a girls night out, fancy decor, but very inviting, great portion size, nice presentation and a decent steak!

I found the service to be extremely good and topped off with some unbelievable food. My girlfriend is gluten and dairy free and she walked out there saying it was the best meal she had ever had.

Busy at Christmas time but we were thoughtfully placed a little away from the noisier revellers! Great staff....super efficient and friendly.....lovely food and wine.

Myself, wife and 2 daughters had the 3 course set menu offer with a drink for about £25. Overall the service was top notch, although I would expect it to be as we ate at 6pm. The mocktails were interesting and one wasn’t liked by my daughter. The bubbly was nice but a little too warm for my taste. The starters were tasty. We all decided to upgrade to the fillet steak for £5 each more. The meat was fantastic and very tasty and tender and was very much enjoyed by all. I had a very nice Cabernet Sauvignon to accompany my main. The churros with cinnamon were also a hit. Overall an enjoyable eating experience and as a first to a Gaucho would be happy to go back.

Excellent meal for the price. Delicious champagne and warm bread to start with, with an amazing flavoured olive oil. The steak was definitely larger than the 225g stated on the menu and it was cooked perfectly. Dessert however was the highlight--I would definitely recommend the dulche de leche ice cream with a shortbread crumb and espresso! Everything was delicious and we'll definitely be coming again. The service and atmosphere was also fantastic.
