Restaurant description

Draped in cowhide and white leather, Gaucho Sloane Square is as dramatic as it is elegant. As an Argentinean steakhouse, diners are guaranteed the very best meats, wines and ambience. Superb cocktails and cigars are served from the bar.

Argentina is famed for its steaks, and the Gaucho Sloane Square menu maintains this reputation. A variety of tender cuts are served, including picana. As well as gourmet burgers, a range of specialities include fillets of bream with crispy serano ham, and irresistible vegetarian options like ricotta and basil tortellini.

Gaucho London takes pride in its huge range of wines from Argentina, including rare bottles. Argentinean grappas and liqueurs from Mendoza sit alongside great beers and colourful cocktails. Meals can be finished in style with the cigar range and selection of Armagnacs and whiskies from the bar.

Chic and stylish, yet with all the passion and welcome of Latin America, Gaucho in Brompton is a 7-minute walk from South Kensington Tube Station.

Booked the star deal (3 courses + sparkling wine for £25) as a treat for my day off. Nice ceviche starter, great bread (especially the little balls which are warm and slightly gooey in the middle, great with herby oil dipping), very generous portion of chorizo steak (the one with the strip of crispy fat) with lots of skin on fries and the affrogato dessert. Highlights: cloakroom, nice cold sparkling wine brought to table v quickly, generous portion, well cooked steak, friendly service. Not so highlights: dessert was a bit underwhelming, can be a bit smokey as the kitchen is open to the seating area, visible fingermarks/greasemarks around the starter plate's edges. Overall though a very pleasant experience and very good value for money.

Guy who greeted us was lovely. Food was great value and delicious. I would have given 5 stars, but unfortunately the waitress had a bit of a weird attitude. We were very pleasant to her so I’m not sure what her problem was. I just had the impression that our very presence was irritating to her, It’s a shame as it put a bit of a dampener on the experience. In my younger days I waited in good restaurants and with an attitude like that (even on one day) I would have been told to sling my hook. Perhaps some training is in order. Ambience could also have been better, but it was lunch. Evening is probably much nicer. Otherwise very good and would return in the hope of better service.
