Restaurant description

Perched on the banks of the Thames and offering superb river views, Gaucho Richmond offers luxurious South American cuisine. Offsetting the glitzy dining room with its floor-to-ceiling windows, the decked 130-seat terrace is a Gaucho highlight.

A renowned Argentinian steakhouse, Gaucho continues to serve some of the finest beef in the world, now complemented by a broader food and wine offering in a contemporary setting. Taking inspiration from modern Argentina and all of its global influences, fresh ingredients are used to create signature dishes such as steak with a choice of béarnaise or chimichurri sauce, pan-seared bream with pickled fennel and dill, and wild mushroom tagliatelle with Torrontés cream and tarragon.

Desserts at Gaucho in London are equally enticing, whilst classic and signature cocktails are joined by an impressive selection of wines from South America and beyond. Contemporary and edgy, Gaucho restaurants feature swathes of plush leather in dramatically decorated dining rooms.

In upmarket Richmond-upon-Thames, Gaucho steak house also boasts views of Richmond Bridge and Petersham Meadows from its chic cocktail bar.

This is the first time I’ve been here for a couple of years. Service was largely extremely attentive, although we had to go and order our own drinks from the bar at the beginning. Atmosphere was great, as we sat outside on a very warm evening looking at the river. My main complaint is that it was extremely expensive and, while the food was nice, the steak didn’t seem any better than anywhere else, and neither did the very expensive wine. So in summary, while it’s a lovely restaurant with great views and largely good service, I found it very overpriced with only mediocre steak.

We went as a family group of seven to celebrate a birthday. We booked for six forty five as that was the latest booking I could get ( it is clearly a popular restaurant and there was a private party on the terrace). Initially we were placed at a table between the toilets and the kitchen but we were moved when we requested it. We started with delicious cocktails. Then we ordered the steaks with sides of chips, spinach and broccoli. Prices are high but the meat was delicious. Some of the party had coconut cake with pear sorbet for dessert while others had dessert cocktails. All were delicious. Service was slow at times especially with the cocktails. This is a restaurant for a treat as prices are high. Also you need to be a steak lover as the restaurant speciality is Argentine beef. There are token pasta, fish and chicken I believe.

We had two separate deals - one we wernt able to produce - the staff were amazing and were really helpful - they organised another menu that was compatible and made every effort to ensure our meal and the occasion wasn’t spoilt. Provided a bottle of wine and were attentive throughout . Could of wished for better service . Excellent!!
