Restaurant description

A high-end hideaway in the West End, Gaucho Charlotte Street offers a glamorous take on Argentinian cuisine. Offering one of London’s most glamorous drinks stocks, the cocktail list is compiled by a ‘Bartender of the Decade’ award winner.

Taking inspiration from vibrant South American culture, the Gaucho menu presents an array of bold natural flavours. Fresh ingredients are sourced from Argentina and used to compile favourite dishes, like king prawns with black pudding and fresh orange, or a trio of juicy beef medallions.

Renowned for its dramatically decorated dining rooms, Gaucho restaurants feature swathes of plush black and white leather and rich cowhide stools, all offset by twinkling chandeliers. Contemporary and edgy, Gaucho in London also offers traditional grappa, glamorous cocktails, and fine wines from Argentina’s most celebrated growing regions.

This contemporary space features cocooned booths, cowhide panels and various mezzanine levels. Gaucho on Charlotte Street is a 2-minute walk from Goodge Street Tube Station.

Gaucho of 5-10 years ago has long gone and is now more an everyday place. Gaucho's used to be of the Goodmans / Hawksmoor ilk and price range, but that is no longer. It is more a cheap and cheerful place. The staff are friendly but have the impression that they would rather be anywhere else than in the restaurant. The food is average, including the steaks, the fries really are quite dire though. The churros are fabulous and hit the spot. The wine list is quite varied and covers all price ranges. I wouldn't suggest this place for any special events but just for a catch-up meal with friends.

Good value offer from Bookatable, £25 for 3 courses including a glass of wine. Upgraded to filet and rib-eye for an additional £6 each, still good value.

You don't even need a steak knife to cut the steaks here. Excellent service, fabulous food and excellent value - went for three-course deal. Would definitely return.

We visited on New Years Day for lunch. The monochrome restaurant has a 70s chic feel which is very relaxed. The staff were pleasent and polite they balanced their level of attention perfectly, we never felt rushed and never felt neglected. The food was outstanding, the set menu was simple and very well priced and the portions were generous. The steaks where cooked to perfection and the sauces where amazing. The churos were an absaloute delight the dulce leite being a welcome change from chocolate. We will be going back to try more of the empada's which in this menu where a starter but merited a main dish of their own.

Good value but very cramped due to main restaurant area on the ground floor having been flooded by a burst pipe
