Twilight tea at The Principal York Hotel is a unique, luxurious and quintessentially British treat. This stunning Grade-II listed building sits in the city centre, with diners given spectacular views of the hotel gardens.

The Principal York Twilight tea is an evening alternative to traditional twilight tea, a lighter, later afternoon tea experience including finger sandwiches, scone selection, jam and playful petit fours with a sharing cocktail tea pot.

The Principal York is a wonderfully luxurious British treat, and is just a one-minute walk from York Rail Station.

Great service. Interesting afternoon tea with a choice of scones and some unusual tastes like the velute and the lemon curd eclair. Nice refurbishment. Good value for money

Very lavish. Comfortable, relaxed and very acomodating staff. Shame the view isn't a garden saw car park!! Lovely comfortable setting and very filling tea for 2. Shame some cakes were only in 1 so had to half them!!!
    Abundance of tea very good

Had afternoon tea here in the Garden Room. This is a luxurious experience. A well appointed room, good quality afternoon tea with excellent champagne. The staff are young, friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

Love the tro of warm appetisers as starter to afternoon tea. Make the experience unique, professional and friendly service. Beautiful room and decor.

Posh and different afternoon tea in palatial surroundings. The room where we ate was stunning - too busy looking round to eat! Service was excellent - nothing too much trouble. great attention paid to my husbands food intolerances - so good to have. Three small varied scones with clotted cream and jam were my favourite, closely followed by the savoury appetisers.

We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. What was unusual and a lovely surprise was the starter for afternoon tea - soup in a small cup and two canapés. The atmosphere was very relaxed.

Visited York. Wanted a high class afternoon tea. Booked via this website. Excellent all round. Beautiful Garden Room, top service as expected at top end hotel The Principle. Food delicious, well worth the price with a glass of champagne. Will definitely visit again.

The hotel and Garden Room are stunning - classic styling with immaculate decor and set table.
The service both inside and out was very good (the hotel attendant outside for parking was extremely friendly and polite).
For the afternoon tea itself it was a delightful selection carefully explained by the waiter and the children's version was a brilliant addition.
My only comments would be that four of us chose coffee and were never offered a refill, hence just one cup for the whole service. The tea drinkers had a pot but only offered more hot water instead of another pot. Obviously the menu does not state refills will be offered but other establishments I have visited do come round and check if any more tea/coffee is required (within reason of course).
A minor comment was that a clotted cream dish had a huge chip and crack on it which just fell short of a perfectly set table.
I would certainly come back, it was a good price but most importantly the service, setting and afternoon tea did not disappoint only for the drinks comment above.
