Was perfect from the moment we walked in, waitress was lovely and made us laugh! Food was amazing! Cocktails were the best I'd had in a while! We ordered a dessert which took 30 mins but we were chatting away so didn't even really notice but the waitress and a waiter came to us and said 30 minutes wasn't good enough so they took it off our bill!

    Booking service worked perfectly.
I have been to Gambas twice now. I had prawns the first time and they were excellent - really up there with the best in London! Very tasty and very hot (just cooked for me as they promise). I wanted to order the same the second time I went but they didn't have prawns or lobster (wrong time of year - low stocks apparently). Never mind, I had the vegetarian stack. Quite tasty, but not up to the standard of the prawns. The aubergine should have been fried (I think it was microwaved or steamed which is when you lose the flavour). The dish was saved by the halloumi cheese (but only just) as that gave it some flavour. But for £11 it was not good value for money. Unlike the prawns which were 8 prawns for £15. I have to say though that the vegetarian options I have tried over the years are always a disappointment - lacking flavour, quantity and value.
The wine is fine but perhaps a nice ale on tap would be good (not Greene King!).
The restaurant itself is lovely. Nice decor and super frienldy staff. Despite the disappointment of the veg stack (prawns done at Gambas are a hard act to follow), I would still recommend it highly. Friendly faces, lovely real fire, drink at the bar, then off to your table.
