Restaurant description

Awarded a Michelin star just 1 year after opening, Galvin La Chapelle is the third venture from illustrious chef brothers, Chris and Jeff.

Offering a seasonally changing repertoire from chef patron, Jeff Galvin, the La Chapelle menu spans from elegant prix fixe choices, to gourmet Sunday roasts. Exquisite Galvin signature dishes include lasagne of Dorset crab with beurre Nantais and pea shoots, or Tagine of Bresse pigeon with couscous, confit lemon and harissa sauce, while desserts, complete with sommelier recommendations, include apple tarte Tatin with Normandy crème fraiche.

Named both Tatler magazine and AA London’s Restaurant of the Year, the award-showered Galvin La Chapelle in London boasts one of the most skillfully compiled cellars in London. A rare vertical wine list is offered, as well as some invaluable vintage bottles.

    We had the set three course menu with a glass of brut which was great value. The staff were friendly and very helpful and we had a lovely meal in a very beautiful restored building which we love. The parfait, calves liver, veloute of sweetcorn and the cheese desert were all packed with flavor.

    Having read the tripadvisor reviews of La Chappel, we knew we were in for a treat, but as the star deal we selected was much cheaper than the regular A la Carte menu, I somewhat expected to be treated a little differently in the restaurant as the other guests, but I was wrong... Once seated at the table, we were told that although the menu which we booked was no longer an available option as it was past midday (we dined at 9PM), as we booked for it, it was available for my girlfriend and I. We were given olives upon seating, and given our glass of champagne alongside them. We were then given our menus and wine menu. We selected our win, and were surprised when a specific wine waiter served, and explained the origins of the wine we selected; a nice touch which I haven’t experienced in all restaurants of this calabre. We chose our 3 course dinner from the star menu. There were 3 starters, 3 mains, and three deserts to choose from, including a meat, fish, and vegetarian option in both starters and mains. My starter of salmon and cream cheese followed by chicken with truffle mash was a delight, accompanied beautifully with the wine our waiter recommended. The balance of flavours was excellent. I was looking forward to experiencing Galvins style of cooking. His style (I thought) blended hearty dishes with an heir of elegance - absolutely superb. My dessert of “buttermilk pannacotta” with eaten mess was also stunning. A dainty dessert packed with freshness, a great pallet cleanser as well as a flavoursome finish. Followed by a coffee with petit fours, it was a great evening all round. Coming to £62 per person, fantastic value. Pros: generally an excellent experience. Having told the restaurant pre arrival it was my girlfriends birthday, they wished her a wonderful day featuring a personalised dessert. A lovely touch. Cons: I think the odd mouse bouche inbetween meals would have made it a perfect dining experience.

    Had the summer tasting menu which was delicious. Treated ourselves to an additional souffle which was out of this world. Cocktails reasonably priced and full of alcohol. Service perfect from all staff. Best place I've eaten in.
