I was very disappointed with the whole experience and J was expecting much more. There were several things wrong and I did not feel like a valurd customer. I had a glass of champagne, a small glass of your white and a large glass of your red. I thought the wind selection by the glass was quite poor but as my husband takes no alcohol - and you have no half bottles - I have no choice but to take wine by the glass. We did not get good drink service like other tables who had ordered a bottle ....I watched several tables and it was very apparent.
My starter if langoustines was ok - a bit over-cooked and spoiled by too much butter. I love them, and was hungry, so I ate them.
My husband and I had steaks (rib eye for him and fillet for me), but mine was cold. I called the waiter who took it away. Meanwhile my husband was left eating in his own. A new steak was served to me on the same plate with the same helpings of side dishes....and same peppercorn sauce. I ate the meal and kept waiting for someone to apologise - but that didn't happen. We asked for the bill and the girl who came asked how the male as so I told her. She said she would talk to the manager but I said I had already complained and nothing was done so I just wanted to leave. When we got to the desk, a manager asked us again how our meal was and I repeated everything again....find told I should have said!! I did say and nothing was done other than a new steak put on the sand plate....absolutely no apology!!
I am sorry to say we will not be back.

An oasis of calm during the Edinburgh Festival. Delicious food and good service.

Restaurant decor and layout very good, although part of the Caledonian hotel didn't feel like a hotel restaurant separate entrance worked well. Food very good, well presented and great choices. Wine and bottled water expensive. £5 for a bottle of water!

Second time we've eaten here and this was just as good as the first. We booked last minute for the steak and frittes with a glass of wine offer. Good size steak, perfectly cooked, excellent frittes with mayo washed down with a nice Merlot. We followed up with a very good Tarte Tatin to share (portion was easily big enough for hsraing)

Enjoyed being there a little early and having a pre dinner drink with complimentary nibbles. Staff were very attentive, enjoyed the guinea fowl it was cooked to perfection. Disappointed at the cost of the coffee after the meal

The staff were very friendly and the food was absolutely dishes. We were dining off the seasonal menu and each dish was faultless. It was my birthday and I was also given a happy birthday plate which was a lovely touch. I will definitely dine there again.

Our booking was for the two course with prosecco but that wasn't registered. Then the bill included drinks we hadn't had supposedly ordered in another part of the hotel. Otherwise, the food was good as it always is.
