Named after a fictional Chinese criminal mastermind, Fu Manchu in Clapham serves up modern Chinese cuisine and zingy cocktails. Found beneath the railway arches, the restaurant has a cool and airy cave-like feel.

Fu Manchu specialises in dim sum, of which there is a vast selection served in authentic wicker baskets. The Fu Manchu menu also features both classic Chinese dishes such as salt, pepper and chilli squid, and more original options, such as kimchi and mushroom dumplings. Sweet treats include crispy custard buns and chilled mango pudding.

Fu Manchu in London is equally renowned for its quirky cocktails that infuse spirits with Chinese teas and Asian spices. Try for example, the mai chai for a twist on the classic cocktail, or Licence to Dill for a punchy creation bursting with flavour.

Later in the evening, the restaurant turns into a nightclub, and there is often live music too. Fu Manchu is less than a minute’s walk from Clapham North Tube Station.

We have been to Fu Manchu before on multiple occasions and loved the venue and the food. We decided to go for all-you-can-eat Sundays to make the most of their offer. We were shocked how different the service was. We picked our first round of food but only half of it arrived. We chased up the missing dishes 4 times and still nothing happened. The steamed dumplings were bought to us completely stuck fast to the paper in the steamer baskets so they fell apart when you tried to pick them up. We informed the floor manager who apologised profusely and we asked for the bill. The dishes we had been waiting for then arrived at our table 1hr 45mins after we had ordered them.
Overall, quite a disappointing experience from a place that we love so much. We will go back, just not at the weekend!

Fantastic cocktails, but food too pricey for what you get, better go on Sunday for all-you-can eat.

Very tasty dim sum and great value for money on the all you can eat deal, service was a bit slow considering they weren't even half full but would go back for the offer
