Restaurant description

A relaxed sister venue to the much-praised Hawksmoor steakhouses, Foxlow is a chic neighbourhood restaurant in Clerkenwell., and is the eldest sibling of the Foxlow brand.

Starters on the Foxlow menu feature crispy 5 pepper squid and carrot hummus, which precede sumptuous offerings like a 600g bone-in prime rib or sirloin for one, Merrifield Farm chicken breast or their own take on a classic, the veggie mac & cheese, with St Swithin’s cheese, broccoli, cauliflower and vegetarian gravy.

Set over 2 floors, Foxlow in London is a boldly minimalist space of off-white tiles, rustic exposed brickwork and red booths. It serves a creative selection of American-inspired cocktails, as well as a range of craft beers and ciders. Nostalgic sundaes are among the delectable desserts.

On St John Street, Foxlow is a 5-minute walk from Farringdon Tube Station, and 7 minutes’ walk from Barbican Tube Station.

I loved the set menu deal, very good selections for starters and mains. Also, the vegan/veggie options sounded very nice as well. The best butternut squash with ricotta on sourdough bread I have ever had!

The food was great, very good squid, kale salad and flat iron steak, starters and desserts a pound overpriced, they should be in the 4-5 pound range and not the 7-8 pound range.

Great squid, fantastic burgers. Reasonable corkage means we brought a few bottles from our collections! My favourite mini-chain restaurant by far.

It was good but not great. Waitress wasn't very good or professional. Pushy and didn't believe me when I said I didn't want a drink, kept asking. Not now usually means not now. I went for what I think is foxlow' best dish. The fried chicken. This time it was a little disappointing. The leg was smaller than normal though cooked for the same amount of time. This meant the coating was good though the meat over cooked and dry. To make the service experience even worse, the special white wine (verdicchio) wasn't even remotely chilled when it arrived. We were offered an alternative, but decided to stick with it. It was put in ice , though the bucket wasn't that full, so only half the bottle was properly chilled. I didn't want to make a fuss, though if I had been on my own I would ha e challenged the "optional" service charge in this instance.
