Restaurant description

Set in the charming village of Fressingfield in Suffolk, The Fox & Goose restaurant showcases traditional-meets-modern cuisine. This 2 AA Rosette-holding restaurant is featured in both the Michelin and Harden's food guides.

Starters on the Fox & Goose menu might include smoked duck breast with pickled winter vegetables, whilst the wild sea bass with scallop mousse with sherry caramel and Parmesan crumble is a must-try main course.

A mouth-watering array of desserts follow, among which the chocolate and peanut butter mousse with popcorn, salted caramel and caramelised white chocolate sorbet is a favourite. This Grade II-listed setting also features an impressive al fresco area, shaded by the neighbouring greenery.

Featuring a tasting menu and a prized Sunday lunch offering, The Fox & Goose is a diverse dining spot. Bosting many original features, this former guildhall has stood on the site since 1509.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

The Taster Menu was imaginative and there were many highlights. The sweetcorn panacotta, the gruyere rarebit with the most divine blue fillet was something I will aspire to with all steak dishes. The wine pairings were interesting and some really worked. The Sauvignon Blanc with mackerel was just too dry; they each robbed the other of flavour. It would have been nice if the server had offered a description of the cheeses but it wasn't a big downer. The donut with the first dessert seemed just to add stodge. Overall, would I eat here again? Definitely!!!

All the food we had was excellent. The service quick, friendly and polite. Relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The setting is lovely inside and out with comfortable seating in beautiful beamed rooms with views of the church, village and beyond. Good choice of drinks. Hard to pick a favourite dish as they were all so good, with creative combinations of flavours, attractively presented. Really can't fault it.

We were seated in the room where 3 separate tables are and was very comfortable and safe, ensuring we were 2 metres apart for sure. The staff were very obliging and very polite. The meal was absolutely beautiful and being as it was my Fiancee’s birthday. We both had the roast beef and the beef was perfect.
