Restaurant description

Set in the charming village of Fressingfield in Suffolk, The Fox & Goose restaurant showcases traditional-meets-modern cuisine. This 2 AA Rosette-holding restaurant is featured in both the Michelin and Harden's food guides.

Starters on the Fox & Goose menu might include smoked duck breast with pickled winter vegetables, whilst the wild sea bass with scallop mousse with sherry caramel and Parmesan crumble is a must-try main course.

A mouth-watering array of desserts follow, among which the chocolate and peanut butter mousse with popcorn, salted caramel and caramelised white chocolate sorbet is a favourite. This Grade II-listed setting also features an impressive al fresco area, shaded by the neighbouring greenery.

Featuring a tasting menu and a prized Sunday lunch offering, The Fox & Goose is a diverse dining spot. Bosting many original features, this former guildhall has stood on the site since 1509.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

amazing food this lunchtime, enhanced by the excellent service. I had a rabbit starter and pheasant for main (with quince jelly) My partner had veggie options with a goat cheese and pear tart, with beetroot for main.

First class service from start to finish, and great value for money for what we had. I am a chef and I think my Salmon main course was the best salmon dish I have had anywhere!

Excellent. We have eaten at the F & G a few times before and the cooking is always superb. This time it was a for special occasion and we had the tasting menu. It is difficult to pick a favourite dish but for me it was the hake or maybe the lamb and the Bigod brie was lovely ........too hard to choose!

We took advantage of the excellent value 3 course Christmas lunch menu. As always the food was interesting, varied, delicious and beautiful to look at. I had prawns, salmon and crème brulee so not at all 'Christmassy' but my friends said the turkey was delicious too. The service was, as always, efficient, discrete and friendly

Our second visit to the Fox & Goose & I was sadden to see the decline. We were seated downstairs which was chilly despite the open fire and lacked any atmosphere at all. Seemed like we were the forgotten diners as the upstairs appeared to be where the larger parties were seated. During the dinner we were given two complimentary items, a parsnip foam with a meat fritter in the bottom of the glass or just a parsnip foam for the vegetarians and an apple crumble with vanilla custard. To be honest the crumble was by far the best dish of the evening. The courses we ordered we ok - nothing special and certainly not dishes that justified the high price tag. We had 3 courses each - one of the mains carried a £4 supplement, 1 side dish, 2 soft drinks, a tea & a coffee and the bill came to over £82! The whole establishment seemed tired & jaded, stairways in need of a paint & carpets tatty & cheap looking. Definitely not the same standard, quality or value for money we'd experienced previously. I wonder whether it just continues to trade of its old AA awards. All in all a sad disappointment.
