Restaurant description

Set in the charming village of Fressingfield in Suffolk, The Fox & Goose restaurant showcases traditional-meets-modern cuisine. This 2 AA Rosette-holding restaurant is featured in both the Michelin and Harden's food guides.

Starters on the Fox & Goose menu might include smoked duck breast with pickled winter vegetables, whilst the wild sea bass with scallop mousse with sherry caramel and Parmesan crumble is a must-try main course.

A mouth-watering array of desserts follow, among which the chocolate and peanut butter mousse with popcorn, salted caramel and caramelised white chocolate sorbet is a favourite. This Grade II-listed setting also features an impressive al fresco area, shaded by the neighbouring greenery.

Featuring a tasting menu and a prized Sunday lunch offering, The Fox & Goose is a diverse dining spot. Bosting many original features, this former guildhall has stood on the site since 1509.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

I booked a table for my friend and I for lunch. The staff were friendly when they greeted us and showed us to our table. Our drinks order was taken shortly after we were seated, and we didn’t feel rushed to order our food. There was plenty of choice on the menu which made it harder to decide what to order! Once we had chosen, warm bread rolls were brought to the table. Our meals were served and were well presented. The plates were hot, as was the food. We both enjoyed our meals and had enough room for a dessert too. We were surprised at how busy the pub was for a Tuesday lunch time. We’ll definitely return.

As usual the food was delicious - favourite dish was the leek, apple and smoked haddock risotto. This time, unusually we were a bit disappointed with the service as it appeared that we had upset the staff, who were not their usual friendly selves.

We had a pre-dinner drink in the bar area (which needs a little decorative attention to make it more welcoming and relaxing sorry to say). Then dinner in the restaurant which was full of diners and nice to see. Good food and service as always but the light above our table was incredibly bright and needed a softer bulb in it.
