Among The Times’ top 10 French restaurants in the south, and Reading’s Restaurant of the Year 2012, Forbury’s Restaurant and Wine Bar is one of Berkshire’s best finds. An extensive AA Notable Wine List and exquisite French cuisine reflects the regional diversity of the country, to be savoured in the elegant dining room or al fresco on the terrace overlooking Forbury Garden.

Chef Xavier Le-Bellego previously worked with Raymond Blanc and the Roux Brothers, with his skills apparent in Forbury’s intricate, classically French dishes served with international accents. Try confit Landes duck leg, sauté potatoes, fine beans persillade, Morteau sausage and red wine jus, or pan fried Landes foie gras with toffee apple purée and toasted brioche.

Not limited to French food, the Forbury’s menu features rillette of Thai spiced smoked mackerel and Moroccan spiced braised lamb shoulder, bulgar wheat and roasted vegetables. Making use of fresh British produce, you will also find Hampshire venison and Herefordshire beef, Exmouth oysters and Cornish scallops.

With bespoke special occasion menus and regular wine tasting events, Forbury’s in Reading is easy to reach by car or on foot. Forbury’s is a 10-minute walk from Reading Train Station.

I would thoroughly recommend Forbury's. The food is excellent - I had the venison (again). The service is very attentive without being intrusive. Altogether a quality restaurant.

Great evening, from the minute we were greeted at the door until we left. Food excellent as always. Would love to see a few new dishes, have been there so often we have worked our way through the menu !!

We had a lovely evening; not just a meal but an experience. The waiting staff were very efficient, friendly and warm. At no point did we feel rushed or uncomfortable; we felt special and pampered. The food was imaginative, tasty, and cooked as requested. We have eaten at Forburys on a few occasions; the service, ambience, and quality of the food is consistently very good and we will continue to come back for more.

The restaurant overall is lovely. Tables not too close together and soft furnishings take away the noisy echoes which so many places have today. We could actually converse without straining! Lovely easy listening jazz playing as background music....adding to the ambience but not too loud.
Waiters are attentive and knowledgeable without being annoying. The food and choice of wines was of a very high standard, and when the food arrived it was beautifully presented and of course delicious.
If I could pinpoint any downside, it would be that there is little choice for you if you are vegetarian. I pointed this out to the waiter (as my brother and partner are) who quickly returned with the lunchtime menu where there were more dishes for them to choose from. The whole evening was every bit as good as I expected it to be as my first choice of restaurants in Reading.
