El Figón de Pedro in Cuenca was awarded the National Gastronomy Prize in 1997 and plays a leading role in Cuenca’s gastronomic weeks. Its kitchens produce traditional Castilian-Manchegan food, adapted to today’s tastes. These are hearty dishes, traditionally cooked by the wandering shepherds, such as morteruelo (pigs liver stew), ajoarriero (salt cod and garlic stew), Manchegan-style cod, migas (fried breadcrumbs with chorizo), Manchegan ratatouille or gachas – an oatmeal porridge flavoured with garlic and pork. The restaurant is small but decorated in a modern and friendly style.
