A conceptual fusion restaurant and cocktail bar, ETC... lies in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan's attractive seaside town, Penarth.
The ETC… menu is packed with local and seasonal produce, which goes into an array of innovative dishes. Chef Stephen Gomes is a passionate advocate of molecular gastronomy, pushing the boundaries of traditional cooking to craft dishes with a unique identity. Signature starters include a prawn chocolate cocktail with lemon foam and cinnamon essence, followed by the likes of rib-eye steak with twice-fried chips or Moroccan vegetables, and spinach-infused spaghetti in a chicken and mushroom carbonara sauce.
In the chic bar area, a selection of smaller plates and sharers are on offer, as are stylish signature cocktails. A quirky twist on Sunday lunch is also a popular choice.
An exciting drinking and dining spot in Penarth, ETC… sits next to Penarth Rail Station, a short walk from the beach.

Lovely decor but would probably be better to go on a night where they were less busy (Mothers Day).
On arrival we were immediately informed that only the steaks were available on the a la Cart menu (which for two vegetarians was a let down). We were assured there were vegetarian options on the more limited selection on the lunch menu, so agreed to be seated.
When it came to drinks we were told happy hour cocktails were not available when I tried to order 2 for 1, then when I queried about the advertisement on the website saying it was happy hour til 8pm they then were available again.
Our waitress, who was very pleasant, recommended the soup, which when arrived was tasty however the presentation was notably uninspiring.
My mothers portobello mushrooms again although flavoursome were the smallest portobellos I've seen.
We then waited an hour after the starters for the main course to arrive, so after finishing our mains we were ready to go home and vetoed dessert.
When the bill came - the two for one happy hour discount for the cocktails was not applied, so I had to request it to be amended.
Overall although the surroundings and staff were pleasant, I was rather underwhelmed. I'd expected something far more interesting from the food choices and their presentation so I'm afraid we both left disappointed.

I felt that the Belly Pork starter was ok, but the fat was inedible as is seemed waterlogged somehow, a very unpleasant sensation.
Otherwise the starter was ok.
The main, Cod, looked delicious, great presentation. Sadly the fish itselfb despite tasting alright was 'wet and had a slimy texture in that the flakes were difficult to pick up with a fork, it would separate and slide of the fork. Other diners experienced a similar problem.
The dessert was good and enjoyable as well as being great theatre. Most enjoyable.
Way too pricey for what it turned oit to be.

Great overall but noise level too loud. Food titles a bit over the top and confusing, especially the puddings. However, very tasty. Staff were great!

Honestly unimpressed. Arrived to a cold restaurant and a very very reduced menu-then to be told only 1 main course was available and there wasn’t 1 of the starters or desserts either-oh and no cocktails at all (in a cocktail bar!!!) overall table service was poor. Shame as the food was actually lovely. Won’t return.

Simply excellent, such a wonderful experience. From the moment my wife and I arrived we were warmly greeted and shown to our reserved table. Even though it was the 16th February they had set us up a valentine table with lovely decorations that brought a tear to my wife's eyes. The place is just enchanting with amazing decor and atmosphere. The food was absolutely fantastic with cocktails and wine to make it extra special. Such a warm and friendly host and staff we were made to feel both welcome and special. Its the second time that we have been there and its a firm favourite as that special place to go for a wonderful night out- thank you. Steve & Sue

The restaurant was cold and the music very loud. I sat during my whole meal with my coat on. Food very mediocre and expensive. My meal arrived on a boiling hot plate but the French beans were cold. Limited menu which has not changed for a long time.
