Lovely food and service. The desserts seem to have gotten smaller since a couple of years ago.

First of all a thank you to the team. I had mistakenly booked a table for 2 people and needed one for 4 and they moved us around without fuss. Booking a table online was easy. The crackers on the table were a lovely touch, as we were there to exchange presents. The food was good and served in timely fashion. All in all, a lovely experience today - thank you!

Overall having dined here several times we were very disappointed. Specifically the good point, our table was ready, clean and waiting for us on our arrival at 7pm.
The rest of our party arrived just a few minutes later and we looked at the menu whilst we had a drink. Our order was placed at the bar by about 7:20. I noticed he other diners around us who had arrived and ordered a considerable time after us were being served their food but there was no sign of ours. At about 8:20 I managed to catch the waitresses eye and inquire what the status of our food order was, she promised to check and circa 5 minutes later the food was brought to our table.
My partner who had ordered sea bass was very disappointed with her's as the fish had totally dried up. I had the cod and chips as did some other members of the party. The garden peas we had requested were totally dry and barely edible. Around the table various comments were made about the fact that although the food was reasonably hot it had obviously been kept that way under heat lamps in the kitchen. I gathered the overall feeling was of very poor quality and suggested we reject the food but no one wished to make a fuss. The waitress did come and ask if everything was alright to which I said no it wasn't and the food was very dry. She apologised and offered to get new dishes out for us to which I said no as a follow on to the general concensus.
This was a wedding anniversary celebration and as this is currently my local I had high hopes that everything would go well. Earlier experiences at the pub had left me with similar but less strong feelings to this evening. Certainly I feel very let down and the Ship Ashore will no longer factor as a choice of establishments to go for an evening out. I certainly have the impression that the manager has reduced staffing levels to an absolute minimum to cut costs with the immediate affect of also reducing service and quality levels as it can take ages to even get a drink.
