Elliot's combines the traditional listed features of this magnificent historic building with contemporary design. The dining room has a great sense of style with an ornate corniced ceiling, original fireplaces and expansive Georgian windows flooding the dining room with natural light. Offering an array of modern Scottish dishes prepared with locally sourced seasonal ingredients wherever possible, John Brandon takes great pride in ensuring that all his dishes are hearty and tasty. Start with the roasted beetroot salad, goat's cheese, rocket cress and aged balsamic vinegar. Then try the braised lamb shank - slowly cooked, ensuring the meat is so tender it falls from the bone - truly sublime. Finish with the very popular recommendation of dark chocolate tart, tempting all chocolate lovers to lose themselves in the intensely rich cocoa taste. An extensive wine list along with superb service makes Elliot's Restaurant an ideal venue for every occasion.

Very nice restaurant, staff very attentive, food was very well prepared and presented, all washed down with a very nice Red, quality restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh and not too expensive.

We found the experience very disappointing at Elliots. The choice of menu was very restricted and poor. We asked if there was anything else on the menu and if we could choose from the Bar Menu, which we did. When we placed our order of 2 starters and 2 main courses when the main course arrived the waitress only brought one meal and asked if we would like 2 plates thinking we were sharing the main course. The waitress went away and came back asking my wife what salad she had ordered. We explained we hadn`t ordered any SALAD but had ordered the SALMON. It was obvious there had been a mix up taking the order and were informed the salmon would take approximately 15 - 20 Mins to prepare which was no use as we had pre booked theatre tickets so could wait that long. The fact that we arrived at 1730Hrs and I received my main course after 45 Mins at approx. 1820Hrs meant we didn`t have time to wait a further 20 minutes and after all we do prefer to eat together. We just shared the Piri Piri Chicken dish between us after all. The restaurant did reduce our bill accordingly to compensate but all in all the overall experience was spoiled.

Booked a table for 18:30, eating whilst Torchlight Procession arrived. Table ready early, Staff attentive and helpful. Main and Desserts very tasty, nice to get food presented in an original way. Offered Tap water and bread rolls to start. Perfect place to eat, then see the Torchlight Procession Finale.

Poor selection, very small portions , (bread basket 1 slice each!) wine expensive. Staff very nice but not very attentive. No atmosphere at all - although it was mid afternoon when we ate, it is the festive season.

Restaurant and food v nice, staff at reception most helpful. Service within restaurant pretty poor. Waiter did not seem to know anything about the items on the lunch menu and service was very slow. Had to re-request several items eg milk for tea.

Dined at lunchtime and the restaurant was pretty quiet on that day so there was,nt much atmosphere, however we did enjoy the meal and felt that the set menu was very good value.
