Me and my boyfriend had the duck and steak - both were amazing. Our waiter James was very helpful and happy to make adjustments to my meal.

Small dinner selection, vegetables very poor. Had cheese and biscuits for after, but biscuits were 6 digestives and cheese selection poor and very small, the pile of branston pickle was a nice touch! Lovely staff though.

dinner was very poor - for a 4 star restaurant we were very disappointed - tiny frozen prawns in the prawn salad, the beef was tough and virtually inedible, the vegetables were luke warm breakfast had no fruit salad, no muesli - the glasses for the cold drinks were filthy on a paper sheet on a tray and were stuck to the paper, the cold water was tepid

The first course was a little disappointing as the veg seemed to have been kept warm for quite a while before being served. The passion fruit cheesecake was delicious but would have been much better with the advertised blackcurrant sorbet. The vanilla sorbet did nothing to enhance the dish. The real annoyance came after the meal. I asked for a drink to have with coffee and asked to sit in the more comfortable chairs by the bar. Having moved to the bar I was then told I couldn't order a drink as it was a dispensing bar for diners only - quite what the £60 I just paid for if not for dinner I'm not sure. There was no offer to get me a drink from the very cold Terrace bar just a very stroppy "well the waiter shouldn't have told you that you can sit here and have a drink". This is not service by any description and certainly not by country house hotel standards. The very rude young lady who certainly thought she was in charge (and may well have been) declined to enlighten us at to what the chairs around the bar were for if not pre and post dinner drinks. I stayed at this lovely hotel for a short break and would like to be able to say this was the only lapse in service standards. I marked service down for this but the waiter during the meal was excellent so this does not reflect on him.

Vegetarian options extremely limited. Even though I requested vegetarian dishes for my wife while booking it was not delivered.
