Awarded World’s Best Pastry Chef by the World’s 50 Best Restaurant awards, Dominique Ansel’s eponymous London bakery has launched its afternoon tea of sweet and savoury bites inspired by a blooming garden.
Following the path of a seed growing and blossoming into a full-bloomed flower, the menu begins with savoury bites and ends with a selection of sweets. Freshly baked, warm scones with clotted cream and homemade fresh fruit jam will also be served, as well as optional additions from wine and champagne to premium dishes like butter-poached Canadian lobster rolls and Sevruga caviar.
Other menu highlights include the Fallen Leaf, steak tartare with crème fraîche on brioche toast, the Seed, wild mushroom with confit garlic and squid ink choux, and the Bud, lavender meringue, coconut ganache, passion fruit gelée and white chocolate petals. Choose from the Signature Afternoon Tea, add a glass of bubbles with the Sparkling Tea, or opt for the Splendid, which adds butter-poached lobster roll, and Sevruga caviar with buckwheat blini & crème fraiche.
Afternoon Tea is served each Thursday-Sunday for 2 seatings at 2pm and 4:15pm in the bakery’s beautiful covered garden terrace. Dominique Ansel Bakery is a 5-minute walk from Victoria Station.
Kindly note that for afternoon tea service, changes and modifications are politely declined.

Prior to this visit we'd bought pastry products (Cronut, DKA, ...) and loved them, so we wanted to try the Festive Afternoon Tea. We arrived on time, but had to wait around for quite some time, standing, until our table was ready.
More waiting, finally, tea. The tea selection was quite small and it wasn't clear what's black, green, or just an infusion. Both of ours were mediocre at best. Don't bother coming for the tea. 45 minutes after the booked time, the food arrived. It did look spectacular, though I was disappointed not to see any pastry anywhere. By now the tea was cold.
The baked shells of the Christmas trees were wildly inconsistent, their savoury fillings all came through very well, though I'm not sure they all worked, exactly.
The scones were ... dense, doughy, yeasty?!? Whatever they were, they weren't scones and they were certainly underbaked. Surprisingly tasty for all that and enclosing the filling in a white chocolate star was a nice, if too rich, touch.
The sweet section was where it fell apart. Basically, everything was a decorated white chocolate sphere with some filling or other. Beautiful to look at. On their own, they might well be delicious, though even then, the chocolate should be thinner and they'd need something, anything, to offset the sweetness of all that unflavoured sugar paste and white chocolate, something (else) to cut through the richness. But try eating four. The second was boring, the third almost painful. Too. Much. Sugar.
I'm sorry, I don't care how something looks, if it isn't delicious and doesn't work on the level of individual dishes and as a set menu. Maybe they should've stuck to their pastry forte, there didn't have to be scones. The whole restaurant side of things didn't appear to be running too smoothly.
That said, the staff listened to our comments and we got complimentary mince pies.

Gorgeous terrace with lovely Christmas lights set back from the noisy cafe seating. Service was perfect. Everything we needed yet not at all rushed. Every single piece of food was deliscious and so much attention to detail. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants a high quality afternoon tea.

The restaurant is first class. The service was friendly and efficient, the Tea was wonderful, so innovative, no humdrum sandwiches instead savoury bites that were delicious. The cakes were works of art, so tasty. It was an excellent experience.

Favourite dish was the squid ink choux with wild mushrooms and garlic. The scone has extra flavour and depth from the chocolate strawberry and clotted fill exquisite. the service was excellent.

Over the time period of 2 weeks vacation, my friend and I was able to go to Dominique Ansel Bakery on multiple occasions. We thoroughly enjoyed each and every item we tried. It was all fabulous. I have to admit that we did not just try one item each time, nor did we duplicate any items. The only unfortunate thing I could say was we could not try them all, but we gave it a good effort.

The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the service was amazing! The food was delicious but after the halfway point with the scones, everything got extremely sweet and it was hard to continue eating so much sweet.
