Restaurant description

Acclaimed as one of the world’s Top Ten Best Restaurants by The New York Times, Din Tai Fung in Covent Garden has its roots date back to Taiwan where it began as a retail cooking oil business before later re-inventing itself as a restaurant serving xiao long bao (steamed pork dumplings) which has since brought it world-wide fame. Its success is a testament to the brand’s core philosophy of serving up the highest quality food, prepared with precision and offered at reasonable prices, earning it a Michelin Plate.

At Din Tai Fung, technique matters and each of the xiao long bao feature exactly 18 folds. They are hand-prepared by 6 teams at 6 different stations, the entire process taking a total of 40 minutes before xiao long bao are served fresh to customers. Each Dian Xin chef at Din Tai Fung in London is extensively trained in each process for up to 6 months and put through a stringent test before they are allowed to move on to the next station.

The Din Tai Fung menu includes other signature dishes like Shanghainese drunken chicken, prawns dou miao with garlic, vegetarian jiao zi, noodle soup with braised beef or red bean xiao long bao with chocolate lava. Watch the chefs in action through the open kitchen.

In the heart of buzzing Covent Garden, Din Tai Fung restaurant is a 3-minute walk from Covent Garden Tube Station or a 5-minute walk from Leicester Square Tube Station.

    We LOVE Din Tai Fung! We lived in Asia (HK) for over 20years and love the authentic food here ! We were served by a lovely young man, "Louange" I do believe is the correct spelling, and we got to chat to him - he is Training to be an architect.. respect! He even went so far as to have my iphone charged up for me while we were eating, because my rail ticket was on my app, and I worried my phone would be dead by the time we came to head home! ALL the staff at Din Tai Fung are excellent, well trained, top of the bunch, I can tell... In terms of food - its ALL excellent! form the Broccolli simply steamed with Garlic and a bit of Ginger, to the "flagship" steamed Cod fish in Soy, a real 'banquet favourite' in Asia - and here, its a small portion, (not a whole fish like we used to have to 'show off' in Asia) - but my goodness, its EXCELLENT! The location in London's Covent Garden is awesome, and while the ordering via the App is a bit of a Covid-Era pain in the butt - its not so hard, but watch out, one can get 'greedy eyes' and order a lot and your 'basket' can go up and up in terms Of $$$ (well, pound signs.,. I don't have them on my Asian Keyboard!) Overall, a massive success, I have been here before, for business lunch, but its equally good in the evenings.. Thankyou, Team Din Tai Fung, I have eaten with you in Taiwan, Dubai, and now London. We will be back - soon! Cheers Ian.

    Best dim sum in town. Very happy the restaurant finally opened in London. Food is fresh and tasty. I love watching the chefs make the most perfect dumplings. The kitchen is so clean and tidy and the food is so fresh. Also the service is excellent.

    Great food and good service considering the difficult times. We asked to move tables and even that was done quickly and efficiently - the new dumplings with soup were delicious especially the Truffle selection.

    Food is as good as usual. They do best Xiao Lung Bao in town. However tables are arranged very close to each other and no partition is setup in between. If the restaurant can do more regarding to covid measure , that would be excellent.

    First visit to DTF in London - have been to a number of other sites elsewhere in the world. Ambience good in a COVID-19 world, food good, service excellent (our waiter, Louange, could not have been more charming and attentive).
