I chose Danesfield House for my wife's 60th birthday afternoon tea. The location we knew would be superb, as this was the venue of our wedding reception many years ago. However, we feel rather let down by all other aspects of the experience.
The temperature of the terrace restaurant very cold to the point I had to keep my outdoor coat on. The service was not as attentive as expected, the waiter disappeared after serving the afternoon tea, but did not return to check all was ok, even though he pointed out that the cream and jam supplied was probably not sufficient for 4 scones. We had to stop another member of staff walking the restaurant to ask for the predicted extra cream and jam. By the time it arrived the remaining 2 scones were thoroughly cold. Come on Danesfield House, just provided enough jam and cream for the scones you're serving. The sandwiches were pleasant, but wafer thin filling in both the ham and beef sandwiches. At this price point the sandwich filling should be more than a smear of horseradish and a single thin slice of beef. The cake selection was bland and uninspiring considering the price and location. Finally, a 15% service charge would only be acceptable if the service and all aspects of the experience were excellent.
A lovely afternoon because of the location, but could have been so much better.

Good food but served by a surly and unfriendly waiter who had just 2 tables to look after

One very small thing, it was not very warm in the Orangery.

Always an excellent meal, staff friendly and a nice atmosphere. Does need to be somewhat warmer in the winter in the Conservatory.

The experience was somewhat disappointing. The signage from the car park in the dark led us on a mystery tour. The dining room had no christmas decorations up so lacked atmosphere. Upon arrival the waiter failed to offer us drinks other than bottled water. We had bread in advance of the starter, it sat there for 15 mins until the starter arrived, not sure of the point? The wild mushroom risotto lacked seasoning and was tasteless although the other risotto was a joy. The starters of scallops and foie Gras were fine as were the Christmas puddings. It was an OK experience, all a bit lacklustre. I judged the 15% service charge to be expensive, even Gordon Ramsey charges 12.5%

Service was not brilliant. We had the christmas special - half the party had beef which they said was good, half had turkey and would not recommend it. Fundamentally disappointed and would not go there again.

Poor service, specific sandwich requests ignored, no refills of tea or sandwiches offered and coffee needed to be ordered twice. £15 glass of wine was delivered quickly though!

We booked on line and on arrival the booking was not found but it wasn’t a problem as we were the only guests at that time. We chose from the set lunch menu and our meals were good. We enjoyed two courses and some wine. We were sat a a table overlooking the beautiful view.
I was eager for my husband to see Danesfield House as we were thinking about booking a private dining room for a celebration next June.
