Run by four brothers, CSons is a homely cafe and restaurant in Shrewsbury, serving a superb selection of large and small plate dishes. Diners can also stop in for a slice of cake and cup of coffee, perfect to enjoy in the tranquil al fresco patio area.
Locally sourced produce from carefully chosen suppliers goes into the CSons menu. An international selection of breakfast dishes start off the day, including Mexican eggs with spicy tomato on toast, and fluffy American-style pancakes with Shropshire honey and praline. Later on there are small plate sharers like salt beef croquettes with fennel and blood orange, or try one of the hearty mains, with options including cod cheek and chermoula tagine.
The selection of cakes at CSons in Shrewsbury includes gluten-free varieties, while coffee comes from Square Mile Roasters. There is also a range of loose leaf teas, while stiffer drinks include local ales and ciders, and a concise wine list.
An inviting spot for all-day dining, be it a sit-down meal or casual cup of coffee and slice of cake, CSons is a 10-minute walk from Shrewsbury Rail Station.

5 course Mystery Menu evening. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Very disappointed to discover that the restaurant do not serve lager, not even a bottled lager. I don't drink IPA, spirits or cocktails and to drink wine all evening is an absolute no no for me so I had to just drink water. The waiter was very apologetic but couldn't offer me anything except an IPA shandy. No thanks! The food came, 1st course was beautiful. 2nd course was bland; no seasoning - shame because ingredients were lovely. No salt and pepper on the table so couldn't season the dish ourselves. 3rd course was ok but fish is not my thing - husband loved it. 4th course was HUGE - far too much food for me especially after eating 3 previous courses. The dish was belly pork etc - the belly pork on my plate was white, 'flabby' fat and a miniscule amount of meat. Otherwise the dish was tasty. My opinion is that it didn't need the meat; it would have worked as a vegetarian dish. My husband said he'd had more meat on his plate and enjoyed it. 5th course was 2 desserts to share between us - both lovely but one VERY sweet which didn't appeal to us much.
Overall, it was good but not exceptional. The fact that CSons do not cater for everyone's drink tastes is disappointing and perhaps short sighted - there are a lot of lager drinkers out there! There are craft lagers locally brewed too - Shropshire Lager being the one that springs to mind!

Excellent friendly service, was made to feel really comfortable and made it a very memorable experience. The food was amazing, really enjoyed every course and the surprise menu meant that I had foods that I wouldn't normally choose from a menu. The price was also very reasonable. Will definitely return.

This was my third visit to Csons, the second for brunch.
If you want a quiet peaceful Sunday brunch, this is not the place for you, as it’s packed on a Sunday, and the tables are quite close, with no where for coats/bags.
The food is good value and tasty.
Drinks are ok, but seem expensive for what you get. Experience tells me to ask for hot water with my black americano as you don’t get a full cup but it’s quite strong.
Service is friendly, but a bit hit and miss as they are so busy, in waves.
Also, a bit snappy when you first walk in, about whether you have booked, otherwise really lovely people.
